To whom it may concern, I knitted for many yrs. a knitted blanket & made many of this blanket for friends & relatives & got the pattern from a friend, who past away, I did find it at one time on line. Do you know where I can look for an older pattern or how to find where I saw it many yrs. ago on line? I don't even know what this pattern was called. I will continue to look to see if I can find it. Thanks/1

Dear Sue, if that pattern was a DROPS pattern we still have almost all of them online, try look true the old catalogs here. If it was something else ... a search in ravelry.com's database might come up with a lead. I hope you will find what you are looking for.

It's the magic of knitting that makes this a square rather than a triangle! Increasing in the middle also bends the row of stitches, so that instead of a very flat and wide triangle, the long edge bends around to make 2 sides to match the 2 garter stitch edges (see the colours on photo). It may look like a triangle on your needles, but it will be a square when you cast off! The placing of increases and decreases can have surprising effects on the direction of the knitting stitches around them.

DOMINO SQUARE: Insert 1 marker in the middle st. Row 1 (= WS): K all sts. Row 2 (= RS): K until st with marker, 1 YO, K 1 (st with marker), 1 YO, K the rest of row. On next row (= WS) K YOs twisted to avoid hole. Repeat 1st and 2nd row, i.e. inc 2 sts in the middle of the square on every other row (RS). ---------------------------------------------------------- BLANKET: Work 28 squares of 5 of the color and 29 square of 2 of the colors (198 squares in total). Then sew them tog into a blanket. One square measures approx. 7.5 x 7.5 cm / 3" x 3''. SQUARE: Cast on 3 sts on needle size 4 mm / US 6 with Fabel. Insert 1 marker in the middle st. Work in DOMINO SQUARE - see explanation above - back and forth. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE Work domino square until square measures 7.5 x 7.5 cm / 3" x 3''. Bind off - NOTE: In the corner on each side of mid st bind off with YOs (i.e. Bind off one st, YO and bind off YO) to avoid a tight edge, bind off the rest of the sts as usual. Cut the yarn, leave approx. 30 cm / 11 3/4'' - this is used for assembly. ASSEMBLY: Place the squares in the same direction with 11 squares in width and 18 squares in height. Sew first tog strips of 11 squares - use strand from square and sew tog 2 and 2 squares with neat little stitches. Then sew strips tog with a new strand. |
