Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in American and British English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in British English, please click here.
See diagrams A.1 to A.3 and A.4 to A.6. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS. Diagrams are divided into 3 parts. A.1 and A.4 are worked in right side, A.2 and A.5 are repeated and A.3 and A.6 are worked in left side.

Worked back and forth in two parts. Beg by working one half of the shawl, then work from beg of this half to make the other half.

Work 151 ch on hook size 4 mm / G/6 with Lace. Turn piece and work back in ch as follows: Beg by working 1 sl st in the 15th ch from hook. Then work along the ch-row as follows: * ch 7, skip 7 ch and work 1 sl st in next ch *. Repeat from *-* the entire row and finish with 1 sl st in the last ch on row = 18 spaces in a line.
Turn piece and work according to diagram A.1 to A.3 – READ PATTERN ABOVE. I.e. work as follows:
ROW 1: Work ch 4, work 2 tr in first ch-space, 1 ch and 2 tr in same ch-space, * 2 ch and skip to next ch-space, work 2 tr, ch 1, 2 tr in same space *, repeat from *-* the entire row. Turn piece.
ROW 2: Work ch 4, *2 tr in next ch-space, 1 ch and 2 tr in same ch-space*. Repeat from *-* the entire row.
Continue working as row 2 until piece measures 66 cm / 26''.

Then work diagram A.4 to A.6. I.e. work as follows:
ROW 1: Work ch 4, * 4 tr in next ch-space, 1 ch and 4 tr in same ch-space (= 1 large tr-group), skip to next ch-space *, repeat from *-* the entire row. Turn piece.
ROW 2: Work * ch 5, 1 sc in ch from previous row, ch 5, 1 sc between tr-group from previous row *, repeat from *-* the entire row and finish with 1 sc in first 4 ch from beg of previous row. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last st.

Turn piece and work on the underside of the 18 spaces from beg of first half. Work the same way as first half but beg on ROW 1.

Place the piece in lukewarm water until it is soaking wet. Carefully squeeze out the water - do not twist. Then roll the piece in a towel and squeeze to remove more water - the piece will now only be moist. Place the piece on a carpet or mattress - carefully stretch it out to measurements found at the top of pattern. Leave to dry. Repeat the process when the garment has been washed.

Anne 05.06.2018 - 20:51:

I'm not sure why this is worked in two sections? Is there any reason why it couldn't be one continuous piece?

DROPS Design 05.06.2018 kl. 21:59:

Dear Anne, this way the shawl will be symmetrical from both sides. Happy crocheting!

Rusty 02.04.2018 - 14:32:

Is there also a pattern for size large and extra large?

DROPS Design 27.05.2016 kl. 12:48:

Hej Liv. Ja, det er en traad Lace.

Linda Weiss 06.05.2016 - 18:17:

What is the difference between A.1, A.2 and A.3. Do I go into the chain space after every 2 tr? Also, for clarity, is this a UK or US pattern? Is the TR really a double crochet or a triple crochet? I am hoping to complete this by this Sunday and will work on it after your response. I am just concerned because mine looks a bit different from your completed photo. Hope you respond today. Thank you

DROPS Design 09.05.2016 kl. 08:58:

Dear Mrs Weiss, to be sure about the crochet terminology, make sure you are reading correct language (change language by clicking on the arrow below the picture). You are working the fans with dtr (UK-English)/tr (US-English) groups - A.1 starts with ch 4 at the beg of row from RS, then work 1 dtr/tr group in next 1-ch-space - repeat A.2 (= 1 dtr/tr group in the mid chain in every dtr/tr-group) and A.3 ends with 1 dtr/tr group in mid ch on last dtr/tr group and starts with ch 4 at the beg of row from WS. Happy crocheting!

Linda Weiss 04.05.2016 - 20:07:

Thank you so much for your quick response! I'm not sure what the difference is between A.1, A.2 and A.3. From the diagram they look very similar. What is the difference? Thank you!

DROPS Design 06.05.2016 kl. 08:38:

Dear Mrs Weiss, A.1 shows how to work diagram at the beg of row from RS and at the end of row from WS, A.2 has to be repeated across, and A.3 shows how to work diagram at the end of row from RS and at the beg of row from WS. Happy crocheting!
