CROCHET INFO:
Beg every row with 1 ch, work dc in every dc on row.

CROCHET TOG:
Work 1 dc but wait with last pull through (= 2 sts on hook), then work next dc (or next 2 dc the same way) but on last pull through, pull yarn through all sts on hook = 1 dc remain.
----------------------------------------------------------

LARGE GINGERBREAD HOUSE:
Work front and back on roof first, then front and back on house.

ROOF:
Worked back and forth.
ROW 1: Work 32 ch with 2 strands Safran on hook size 4 mm, turn and work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in every ch until 2 ch remain, work the last 2 dc tog - READ CROCHET TOG = 30 dc, turn piece. NOTE: The 1st dc made = point A on chart (and the last dc is point B).
ROW 2: READ CROCHET INFO! Work the first 2 dc tog, 1 dc in every dc the entire row = 29 dc, turn piece.
ROW 3: Work 1 dc in every dc until 2 dc remain on row, work the last 2 dc tog = 28 dc, turn piece.
Then repeat ROWS 2 and 3 - i.e. dec 1 dc on one side of triangle on all rows - until 1 dc remains (= point C). Fasten off (= back). Work another roof the same way (= front).

STRAP:
With red Paris work 1 sl st in point A on the back, then work ch for approx. 12 cm, finish with 1 sl st in same st, fasten off.

ASSEMBLY:
Place front on back, WS against WS, work tog with 1 strand off white Paris as follows: Start in point B - see chart, work 1 sl st through both layers, * 2 ch, skip approx. 1 cm, 1 sl st in outer loops of edge sts through both layers *, repeat from *-* up to point A at the top of roof, and down to point C.
Then repeat from *-* along the edge between point C and B on the front - NOTE! Make sure that there are 23 ch-spaces above this edge, then 23 ch-spaces on the edge between point B and C on the back, finish with 1 sl st in 1st ch-space in point C on the front.

Continue to work as follows: 1 ch, 1 dc in same ch-space, in next ch-space work 4 tr with 1 ch between every tr, * 1 dc in each of the next 2 ch-spaces, 4 dtr with 1 ch between every dtr in next ch-space *, repeat from *-*. Finish with 1 dc in last ch-space = 8 spaces on each side (= 16 spaces in total). Fasten off. With 1 strand off white Paris embroider squares on the front of roof - see chart. With orange/red/dark turquoise/pistachio Paris make 1 French knot in each square - see chart.

HOUSE:
Worked back and forth. Work 37 ch with 2 strands Safran on hook size 4 mm, turn and work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in every ch = 36 dc, turn. Continue working 1 dc in every dc until piece measures approx. 10 cm. On next row work 1 dc in every dc - but only work in the back loop of sts (= folding edge) = edge between point D and E on chart. Then work 1 dc in every dc as before until piece measures approx. 10 cm after folding edge (i.e. the same length on both sides). Fasten off.

HEART:
Worked back and forth.
ROW 1: Work 2 ch with 1 strand red Paris on hook size 4 mm, work 2 dc in 1st ch made, turn piece.
ROW 2: Work 2 dc in every dc = 4 dc, turn piece.
ROW 3: Work 2 dc in 1st dc, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc and 2 dc in last dc = 6 dc, turn piece.
ROW 4: Work 1 dc in every dc, turn piece.
ROW 5: Work 1 dc in each of the first 3 dc, turn piece (3 dc remain on the other side of row).
ROW 6: Work 1 dc in every dc, turn piece.
ROW 7: Work all 3 dc tog = 1 dc, cut the yarn and keep approx. 30 cm for assembly.
Repeat ROWS 5 to 7 on the other side of heart.

ASSEMBLY:
Sew heart on to mid front on one side of house (= front) - NOTE: Fasten the tip of heart towards bottom edge of house (without folding edge), sew 2 stars on each side of heart with off white Paris - see chart.
Fold the sides along the folding edge, WS against WS, work them tog with 1 strand off white Paris as follows: Start in point E on chart, work 1 sl st through both layers, * 2 ch, skip approx. 1 cm, 1 sl st in outer loops of edge sts through both layers *, repeat from *-* along the 3 edges around the house up to point D, i.e. do not work over folding edge (between point E and D), finish with 1 sl st in point D.
Place folding edge on house in opening between front and back of roof, sew front on house towards front on roof under fans, repeat on the back of house and roof.

SMALL GINGERBREAD HOUSE:
Work front and back on roof first, then front and back on house.

ROOF:
Worked back and forth.

Janet Burgoyne 02.12.2017 - 17:16:

I am working on the large gingerbread house and am confused... why are there 2 roofs and 2 houses? Is there a reason to double this up? Why so thick? And I’d the bottom supposed to be open for something? An assembly video about the parts and how they go together would be super helpful! Thank you!

DROPS Design 04.12.2017 kl. 09:19:

Dear Mrs Burgoyne, you crochet 2 houses and 2 roofs so that they will be double and potholder will be thicker (to make a better protection against warmth). They are then crocheted together, working 1 st in both layers (piece from the top side + piece from the down side) as shown in this video. Happy crocheting!

Anja Hjorth 09.12.2015 - 17:44:

Dawn M Krupa 28.11.2015 - 19:38:

It it possible that you would have this pattern in Knit. I do not crochet and would love to make it for my daughter. Would it be hard to convert it to a knitted pattern? I'm am a slightly advanced knitted and can follow instructions.

DROPS Design 30.11.2015 kl. 10:35:

Dear Mrs Krupa, there is only a crochet version to this pattern, but to help you to start crochet, you will find here some lessons as well as videos under tab "videos" at the right side of "materials". Happy crocheting!

Gisger 20.08.2015 - 10:49:

Bon crochet!

Crystal Hart 06.12.2014 - 00:33:

These would make a great craft for younger children. You could crochet several blank gingerbread houses, and the kids (or yourself) could decorate them with squeeze tubes of puffy fabric paint, like frosting a real gingerbread house, and they could even embed beads or small clay shapes into the paint like candy decorations in frosting.

Micha Widerberg Serak 09.11.2014 - 12:45:

Hej!

Erika 28.12.2013 - 16:41:

Hey, excellent idea, I do love your web side..Thank you very much for sharing all these beautiful patterns!

Ludivine 05.12.2013 - 21:37:

Bon crochet!

Bettina Martinez 02.12.2013 - 23:18:

Fantastic! I´m going to do this.

Ludivine 02.12.2013 - 16:35:

Merci de votre réponse, je vais me mettre à l'ouvrage ! Maman trouve cela charmant :-) Félicitations
