Very lovely, I's like to make these for a friend to wear with skirts in cold weather. It's so hard to find pretty patterns for kneehighs - especially as I don't want to use any very thin yarns.

PATTERN: See diagram M.1 to M.4. The diagrams show the pattern from the RS. DECREASING TIP: Dec 1 st on each side of M.4 as follows: P tog the last st before M.4 and the first st in M.4, and P tog the last st in M.4 and first st after M.4. HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= RS): Work row until 6-7-7 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn piece. ROW 2 (= WS): Work row until 6-7-7 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn piece. ROW 3 (= RS): Work row until 5-6-6 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn piece. ROW 4 (= WS): Work row until 5-6-6 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn piece. Continue dec like this with 1 less st before each dec until there are 14-14-16 sts left on row. ---------------------------------------------------------- SOCK: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 120-135-150 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with Alpaca. P 1 round, K 1 round, P 1 round and now work 1 vertical repeat of M.1. After M.1 there are 88-99-110 sts on round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Now work 2 vertical repeats of M.2, K 1 round, AT THE SAME TIME dec 10-13-16 sts evenly = 78-86-94 sts. Work 1 vertical repeat of M.3, K 1 round, AT THE SAME TIME dec 10-12-16 sts evenly = 68-74-78 sts. Insert a marker at beg of round and continue as follows: 17-19-20 stocking sts, M.4 (= mid back), and stocking st on remaining sts. When piece measures 12 cm dec 1 st on each side of M.4 – SEE DECREASING TIP – and repeat the dec on every 4 cm a total of 7-8-8 times = 54-58-62 sts. Continue until piece measures approx 40-42-44 cm. Now keep the first 24-26-28 sts on round for heel and slip the last 30-32-34 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot). Work stocking st and M.4 back and forth on heel sts for 5-5.5-6 cm (NOTE: when 2 rows remain work stocking st on all sts). Insert a marker in piece. Now dec for heel – see above. After heel dec pick up 13-14-16 sts on each side of heel and slip the 30-32-34 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 70-74-82 sts. Now insert a marker on each side of the 30-32-34 sts on upper foot and continue in the round in stocking st, AT THE SAME TIME dec each side as follows: K tog the last 2 sts before the first marker into back of loop, and K tog the first 2 sts after the second marker. Repeat the dec on every other round a total of 9-9-11 = 52-56-60 sts. Continue until piece measures 18-20-22 cm from marker on heel (= approx 4-4-5 cm remain). Now insert a marker each side with 26-28-30 sts on upper foot and 26-28-30 sts under foot. Continue in stocking st, AT THE SAME TIME dec 1 st on each side of both markers as follows: K tog 2 sts before marker and K tog 2 sts into back of loop after marker. Repeat the dec each side on every other round a total of 5-6-7 times and then on every round 5-4-4 times = 12-16-16 sts left on round. Cut the thread, pull through remaining sts and fasten. |
