Can this be knitted with the cowl neck attached please? If so please can you advise the best way to do this please? Thanks
31.03.2019 - 00:09DROPS Design answered:
Dear Maralyn, the detachable collar is worked over a larger number of stitches than the neck edge is worked, so that it is wider. We are unfortunately not able to adjust every pattern to every single request, but you can find find inspiration from our patterns with high collar and similar tension. Happy knitting!

Can you advise of the best yarn to knit this in other than the Drops Alpaca boucle please? I know you suggest yarns but wonder if you have seen any yarns made up in this pattern. Thanks

Dear Maralyn, you can check the alternatives yarn with our yarn converter, but noone will give the same texture as Alpaca Bouclé here - read more about alternatives here and do not hesitate to contact your DROPS store for any assistance choosing a yarn - even per mail or telephone. Happy knitting!

INFORMATION FOR PATTERN: GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. GARTER STITCH (back and forth): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeve): Begin 1 stitch before marker thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 2, 1 yarn over. On next round knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. CAST-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight cast-off edge you may use a needle ½ size larger. ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER: Worked in the round on circular needle up to armhole, then work front and back piece back and forth separately. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/a short circular needle. Work collar on a short circular needle as a separate part and is not fastened to the jumper. BODY: Cast on 144-160-176-192-208-224 stitches on circular needle size 8 mm with Alpaca Bouclé. Knit 1 round. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round and 1 marker thread after 72-80-88-96-104-112 stitches (= the sides). Work pattern as follows: Purl 4-0-4-0-4-0, * knit 8, purl 8 *, repeat from *-* until 12-0-12-0-12-0 stitches remain, knit 8-0-8-0-8-0, purl 4-0-4-0-4-0. Continue the pattern like this and move the marker threads upwards when working - REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 43-44-45-46-47-48 cm, divide piece at the markers and finish front and back piece separately. BACK PIECE: = 72-80-88-96-104-112 stitches. Continue pattern as before (i.e. purl over purl and knit over knit) and cast in addition 1 edge stitch at the end of the next 2 rows, work edge stitches in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above = 74-82-90-98-106-114 stitches. Continue to work until piece measures 55-57-59-61-63-65 cm. Now cast off the middle 18-18-18-20-20-20 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue with pattern and cast off 1 stitch on next row from the neck = 27-31-35-38-42-46 stitches. Continue to work until piece measures 57-59-61-63-65-67 cm. Work 2 ridges and cast off - read CAST-OFF TIP. Work the other shoulder the same way. FRONT PIECE: = 72-80-88-96-104-112 stitches. Continue as on back piece. Work until piece measures 50-52-53-55-56-57 cm. Now slip the middle 12-12-12-14-14-14 stitches on 1 stitch holder for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue pattern as before and cast off for neck at the beginning of every row from neck as follows: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2 times = 27-31-35-38-42-46 stitches. Continue to work until piece measures 57-59-61-63-65-67 cm. Work 2 ridges and cast off. Work the other shoulder the same way. SLEEVE: Work sleeve in the round on double pointed needles/a short circular needle. Cast on 24-24-24-32-32-32 stitches on double pointed needles size 8 mm with Alpaca Bouclé. Knit 1 round. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round = mid under sleeve. Work rib = knit 4/purl 4 for 10 cm. Knit 1 round while adjusting number of stitches to 22-24-26-26-28-28. Then work in stocking stitch. When piece measures 11 cm, increase 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4½-4-3½-2½-2-1½ cm 7-7-7-9-9-10 times in total = 36-38-40-44-46-48 stitches. Work until piece measures 40-38-36-33-31-29 cm (NOTE! Shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of wider shoulders) and cast off. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside cast-off edge. Sew in sleeves. NECK EDGE: Pick up from right side approx. 58-63 stitches around the neck (including stitches on stitch holder at the front) on a circular needle size 7 mm. Purl 1 round, knit 1 round and purl 1 round. Cast off. POCKET: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 28-28-34-34-38-38 stitches on circular needle size 7 mm. Work in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. Continue until piece measures 15-15-16-16-17-17 cm and cast off. Work the other pocket the same way. Sew pocket on to front piece - sew approx. 2 cm from edge and place the pockets approx. 24-26-28-30-32-34 cm apart mid front. DETACHABLE COLLAR: Work in the round on a short circular needle. Cast on 96-96-96-104-104-104 stitches on a short circular needle size 7 mm with Alpaca Bouclé. Work 2 ridges in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. Switch to circular needle size 8 mm and work rib = knit 4/purl 4 until piece measures 18-18-20-20-22-22 cm. Switch to circular needle size 7 mm and work 2 ridges, cast off. |
