What does this mean "K 2 sts in first st"? Can't fancy how to do it
05.09.2019 - 17:03DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anastasia, this is kind of increasing: you will knit one st twice - knit the stitch through the front loop, do not slip the stitch from needle, but knit it through the back loop as well. From 1 stitch you will after that have 2 sts. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

Knitted DROPS shawl with lace pattern and edge in rib in ”Merino Extra Fine”.

GARTER STITCH (back and forth): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in pattern seen from RS. INCREASE TIP-1: To calculate how often inc should be done, use the total no of sts on row (e.g. 493 sts) and divide by no of inc to be done (e.g. 129) = 3.8. I.e. in this example inc after approx. every 4th st. INCREASE TIP-2: Inc in transition between K and P. Inc 1 st by making 1 YO, on next row work YO twisted to avoid holes - NOTE: P the inc sts (seen from RS). ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Beg at the top and work down and out (as the number of sts inc we recommend distributing sts on 2 circular needles). Cast on 97 sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm with Merino Extra Fine and work as follows: Row 1 (= WS): K all sts. Row 2 (= RS): K 2 sts in first st, K 2, 1 YO, insert 1 marker (= A), work A.1A (= 5 sts), work pattern according to diagram A.1B over the next 80 sts (= 8 repetitions of 10 sts), A.1C (= 6 sts), insert 1 marker (= B), 1 YO, K 2, K 2 sts in last st = 101 sts. Row 3 (= WS): K 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, K 2 sts in last st = 103 sts. Row 4 (= RS): K 2 sts in first st, K until marker A, 1 YO, continue pattern as before until marker B, 1 YO, K until 1 st remains on row, K 2 sts in last st = 107 sts. Row 5 (= WS): K 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, K 2 sts in last st = 109 sts. Continue pattern like this with K 2 sts in outermost sts on every row and YOs at the markers on every row from RS (i.e. repeat 4th and 5th row). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION When A.1 has been worked 5 times in total, work A.1 one more time but stop when last row in diagram remains (piece now measures approx. 36 cm in the middle). P 1 row from WS (continue inc as before) = 493 sts on needle. Switch to 2 circular needle size 3 mm and work rib as explained below. RIB: K 1 row from RS while inc 129 sts evenly - READ INCREASE TIP-1 = 622 sts. Work next row as follows from WS: 1 edge st in GARTER ST - see explanation above - * K 2, P 1 *, repeat from *-* until 3 sts remain on needle and finish with K 2 and 1 edge st in garter st. Continue rib like this (from RS = P 2/K 1 with 1 edge st in garter st in each side). After 3 cm inc every other P 2 (seen from RS) to P 3 – READ INCREASE TIP-2 = 725 sts. When rib measures 5 cm, inc the remaining 2 P to 3 P = 829 sts. When rib measures 7 cm, cast off with K over K and P over P. CROCHET EDGE: Beg from RS at the top of one corner on shawl and work on hook size 3 mm as follows: 1 dc in first st, * 1 ch, 1 dc in next st *, repeat from *-* to and including first st after first YO in lace pattern, ** 3 ch, skip 4 sts, 1 tr in next st (i.e. at the bottom of “wave”), 3 ch, skip 4 sts, 1 dc in next st (i.e. at the top of “wave”) **, repeat from **-** along the entire edge with lace pattern, then repeat from *-* until corner in opposite side. Fasten off. SHAPING: Moisten shawl and place it flat to form according to measurements. Leave shawl to dry. Repeat the process when shawl is washed. |
