GARTER ST (back and forth): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.9. The diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS. ---------------------------------------------------------- SHOULDER PIECE: Worked back and forth on needle in 2 parts. Sew tog mid back in the side at the end. Loosely cast on 117-117-131-131-145-159 sts on needle size 3 mm with Lace. Work as follows (1st row = from RS): 2 sts in GARTER ST - see explanation above, work diagram A.1 over 4 sts, work diagram A.2 over the next 98-98-112-112-126-140 sts (= A.2 is worked 7-7-8-8-9-10 times in width), 13 sts remain on needle. Work diagram A.3 over 11 sts and work 2 sts in garter st = 16-16-18-18-20-22 sts dec on first row = 101-101-113-113-125-137 sts remain on needle after A.1/A.2/A.3. Then work as follows from RS: 2 sts in garter st, diagram A.4 over 4 sts, work diagram A.5 over the next 84-84-96-96-108-120 sts (= A.5 is worked 7-7-8-8-9-10 times in width), 11 sts remain on needle. Work diagram A.6 over 9 sts and 2 sts in garter st. Continue to work according to diagram A.4/A.5/A.6 until diagrams have been worked 5 times in total vertically. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION Work 2 ridges (= 4 rows K) over all sts. On next row from RS work as follows: 2 sts in garter st, work diagram A.7 over 2 sts, work diagram A.8 over the next 90-90-102-102-114-126 sts (= A.8 is worked 15-15-17-17-19-21 times in width), 7 sts remain on needle. Work diagram A.9 over 5 sts and 2 sts in garter st. Continue to work according to diagram A.7/A.8/A.9 until piece measures approx. 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm adjust after 1 whole repetition of diagram A.7/A.8/A.9 vertically. Work 2 ridges (= 4 rows K) over all sts and loosely cast off with K. Knit another part the same way. SHAPING: Place both parts in lukewarm water until it is soaking wet. Carefully squeeze the water out - do not twist the shawl - then roll the parts in a towel and squeeze to remove more water. The parts will now only be moist. Place the parts on a carpet or mattress - carefully stretch them out to measurements. Lightly pull in dec on cast-on edge so that the edge is shaped into small tips. Leave it to dry like this. ASSEMBLY: Graft/sew the 2 parts tog in the cast-off edge st by st and use grafting/kitchener stitches. Fold the piece along and then sew the sides tog along the dotted lines shown on chart. |
