Hi, I had some beautiful wool to use up (just enough for this hat) but it is only 5 ply. I have cast on 104 stitches to attain the required gauge but wondering if you could possibly help me with the correct decrease for the crown?
09.05.2020 - 00:54DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Kilmurray, if you can't get the correct tension, you would have to find a similar pattern matching your tension or adapt this one to your own tension. We are unfortunately not able to adjust every pattern to every single request. Do no hesitate to contact the store where you bought the yarn. Thanks for your comprehension.

Me again, sorry. I've double moss stitched to 20cm. Now I'm struggling with what this term means. "adjust to so that the last row is from the RS"??? I assume once I've made this "adjustment" I change to garter stitch & commence decreasing on row 4
07.02.2020 - 12:05DROPS Design answered:
Dear Margo, this means the last row worked with double moss stitch has to be a row worked from right side, ie next row will be worked from WS (and the decrease row will be worked from RS). Happy knitting!

I've only needle size 4 and using 100% extra fine Merino wool, how many sts should I cast on for head circumference 56cm? Supposed 88 sts cast on will be insufficient for 56cm circumference since the needle size and thread are finer, right?
07.08.2019 - 16:40DROPS Design answered:
Dear Letitia, we are unfortunately not able to adjust every pattern to every single request - shouldn't you get the required tension in this pattern, you can check similar pattern matching yours or request help from the store where you bought the yarn. Happy knitting!

Does it mean that I should begin decreasing within the moss pattern of the hat and not wait until the pattern turns to the garter stitch? If so, that means I should start reducing in the third row of doing the moss pattern? Thank you for your help.
23.02.2019 - 13:47DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Hundebol, you first work moss stitch, then when piece measures 20-21 cm work in garter stitch, and at the same time, start to decrease every 4th row as explained = end./top of hat is worked with garter stitch, not with moss stitch. Happy knitting!

I have yet to make this hat but I just wanted to comment on how wonderful it is that you provide links for converting yarn size, and American terminology! Fanatastic! I just returned from NZ and purchased 100% Alpaca 8 ply , total 100 grams weight. I’m so excited to get started...I just have to decide on knitting or crocheting it! Thanks again!

DOUBLE MOSS ST (in hight): Row 1 (RS): * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-*. Row 2 (WS): K over K and P over P. Row 3: P over K and K over P. Row 4: As 2nd row. Repeat row 1 to 4. GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 80-88 sts with Nepal on needle size 4.5 mm. K 1 row, then work DOUBLE MOSS ST - see explanation above - over all sts. When piece measures 20-21 cm (adjust so that last row is from RS), work in GARTER ST - see explanation above - until finished measurements AT THE SAME TIME dec every 4th row as follows: Row 4: Dec 16-18 sts evenly (= approx. every 5th st) = 64-70 sts on needle. Row 8: Dec 13-14 sts (= approx. 5th st) = 51-56 sts. Row 12: Dec 10-11 sts (= approx. 5th st) = 41-45 sts. Row 16: Dec 9-9 sts (= approx. 5th st) = 32-36 sts. Row 20: K all sts tog 2 by 2 = 16-18 sts. Row 24: K all sts tog 2 by 2 = 8-9 sts. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts. Sew hat tog mid back, edge to edge to avoid a chunky seam. Hat measures approx. 26-27 cm. Fasten yarn tightly. |
