Hello. At first I want to thank you for all those amazing patterns and free tutorials on your website. Regarding pattern for hot-water bottle cover in seed st I am wondering what is the reason that you recommend even (i.e. divided by 2) no of sts in this pattern while in the tutorial "Seed/moss stitch in the round" you recommend working with an uneven no of sts in those cases. To me odd no of sts seems a better choice & I would appreciate your explanation about the difference in instructions.
11.01.2023 - 22:08DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Airashii, it might have been a designer choice, but you can of course adjust the number of stitches decreasing 1 stitch more or less to get an uneven number of stitches to work the moss stitch in the round. Happy knitting!

This is new to me. am i knitting 2 of these, 2 sides, and then "sewing" them together to make one whole water bottle cover? sorry, i'm obviously a silly fool. (i want to make the pink one. and i do actually know how to knit. haha!)
29.01.2022 - 17:57DROPS Design answered:
Dear Heidi, you work in the round, one single piece. You only need to sew the bottom opening. Happy knitting!

I've knitted the body - so far so good - but the "neck" doesn't get as narrow as I wish or as it appears on the pictures. How do I solve that? Smaller needle size? Thank you for the help
01.02.2020 - 19:34DROPS Design answered:
Hi Fransiska, You can either use a smaller needle size for the rib or decrease more stitches before working the rib. Happy knitting!

Knitted cover for hot water bottle in DROPS Snow
DROPS Extra 0-837 |
|||||||||||||
MEASURING TIP: If your hot-water bottle has other measurements, adjust the pattern as follows: Measure the circumference around the hot-water bottle. Cast on no of sts that can be stretched to this size (with a light pull). Make sure no of sts is divisible by 2. This is the no of stitches needed for the cover. The yellow cover can be adjusted in size by working more or fewer K sts between A-1 on each side of bottle. PATTERN: See diagram A-1 – diagram shows pattern from RS. MOSS ST: ROUND 1: * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 2: K over P and P over K. Repeat 2nd round. GARTER ST (in the round on circular needle): 1 ridge = 2 rounds * K 1 round and P 1 round *, repeat from *-*. --------------------------------------------------------- YELLOW HOT-WATER BOTTLE COVER WITH CABLES: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 62 sts with yellow on circular needle size 6 mm and work 2 rounds in garter st - Read GARTER ST. Then work as follows: K 7, diagram A-1 over 17 sts - READ PATTERN, K 14, diagram A-1 over 17 sts and K 7. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue like this until A-1 has been worked a total of 6 times vertically. K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 20 sts evenly = 42 sts. Piece measures approx. 28 cm. Then work rib K 1/P 1 for 4 cm. Piece measures 32 cm. Loosely cast off sts with K over K and P over P. Sew tog the opening at the bottom so that the cables are mid front and mid back on cover. Cut and fasten all the threads. PASTEL PINK HOT-WATER BOTTLE IN MOSS ST: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 50 sts on circular needle size 6 mm with pastel pink. Work moss st in the round until piece measures approx. 28 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 8 sts evenly = 42 sts. Then work rib K 1/P 1 for 4 cm. Piece measures 32 cm. Loosely cast off sts with K over K and P over P. Sew the opening at the bottom tog. Cut and fasten all the threads. |
