Masami, when you dec 4 sts evenly it just means you spread out the dec on the row so you don't make them next to each other, they don't have to be exactly with the same number of sts in between. If you dec 6 sts each time, the hat might come out too short.

For the largest hat, "cast on 42 and then bind off 4 sts evenly distributed" later. 42 can't be divided by four, so I was confused. But I bind off 6 sts evenly. (I am not English native speaker, so maybe I might misunderstand the pattern instructions.)

Garter sts (back and forth on row): Knit all rows Back piece: Cast on 41-44-47 (50-53-56) sts (inclusive of 1 edge st each side) on needles size 8 mm in Highlander. Knit 4 rows of garter sts, and continue in stocking sts. Remember the knitting tension! When the piece measures 10-11-12 (12-13-13)cm bind off 1 st each side, repeat when the piece measures 20-21-23 (25-26-27) cm = 37-40-43 (46-49-52) sts. When the piece measures 30-32-34 (36-38-40) cm bind off for armhole each side on every other row as follows: 3 sts 1 time and 1 st 0-1-2 (3-4-5) times = 31-32-33 (34-35-36) sts. When the piece measures 43-46-49 (52-55-58) cm, bind off the centre 5-6-7 (8-9-10) sts for the neck. Continue to bind off 1 st on the next row at the neck side = 12 sts left for each shoulder. Bind off remaining sts when the piece measures 45-48-51 (54-57-60) cm. Left front: Cast on 24-26-27 (29-30-32) sts (inclusive of 1 edge st at the side and 4 front band sts for the centre front) on needles size 8 mm in Highlander. Knit 4 rows of garter sts, and continue in stocking sts with the 4 band sts in garter sts. When the piece measures 10-11-12 (12-13-13) cm bind off 1 st each side, repeat when the piece measures 20-21-23 (25-26-27) cm = 22-24-25 (27-28-30) cm. When the piece measures 30-32-34 (36-38-40) cm bind off for the armhole at side as done for the back piece = 19-20-20 (21-21-22) sts. When the piece measures 37-39-41 (43-45-48) cm put the 4 band sts from the mid front on a thread. Continue to bind off 1 st at the neck side on every other row 3-4-4 (5-5-6) times = 12 sts left for the shoulder. Bind off remaining sts when the piece measures 45-48-51 (54-57-60) cm. Right front: Cast on and knit as left front but bind off for armholes and neck at the opposite side. In addition bind off for button holes at the front band. 1 button hole = K 2nd and 3rd st from the centre front tog and make a yo. On the returning row knit into back of you to narrow the button hole. Make buttonholes when the piece measures: Size 3/4 years: 8, 15, 22, 29 and 36 cm Size 5/6 years: 10, 17, 24, 31 and 38 cm Size 7/8 years: 10, 18, 25, 33 and 40 cm Size 9/10 years: 10, 18, 26, 34 and 32 cm Size 11/12 years: 12, 20, 28, 36 and 44 cm Size 13/14 years: 12, 21, 30, 39 and 47 cm Sleeve: Loosely cast on 20-20-22 (22-24-24) sts (inclusive of 1 edge st each side) on needles size 8 mm in Highlander. When the piece measures 28-31-33 (37-41-45) cm bind off for sleeve cap each side on every other row as follows: 4 sts 1 time and 1 st each side until the piece measures 31-35-39 (43-48-53) cm. Bind off 3 sts each side 1 time and bind off remaining sts on next row. The piece now measures approx 32-36-40 (44-49-54) cm. Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams inside the binding off edge. Collar: Put the 4 band sts from the left side on needles size 8 mm, and knit stocking sts – at the same time on the first row, inc 1 st in each st = 8 sts. Continue until collar measures approx 12-13-15 (16-18-19) cm – this is the centre back- put sts on a thread. Repeat the other side, sew the 2 collar pieces tog centre back with knitting sts. Sew the collar to the neck, edge against edge with small neat stitches. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the side and the sleeve seams inside the edge st. Sew in the buttons. Knit 2 rows of garter sts, and continue in stocking sts. Remember the knitting tension! When the piece measures 12-12-15 cm dec 4 sts evenly distributed, repeat on every other row a total of 5-6-6 times. Work another row and on the next row K2 tog across = 8-8-9 sts left. Cut the thread and pull through the remaining sts, pull tight and sew the thread. Sew the hat together at the centre back in the most outer part of the most outer st, to avoid the seam becoming chunky. The hat measures approx. 21-23-25 cm to the top. Pompoms: Make one pink and one orange pompom with a diameter of approx. 4 cm. Attach the pompoms to the top of the hat. NECK WARMER: Size: 3/5 – 6/9 – 10/14 years Materials: DROPS Alpaca from Garnstudio 50-50-50 g colour no. 2915, orange 50-50-50 g colour no. 3900, pink DROPS double pointed needles size 4 mm and pointed needles size 5 mm Knitting Tension: 17 sts x 34 rows with 2 threads of Alpaca on needles size 5 mm in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm. Continue in garter sts – at the same time bind off at the neck side on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 2 times = 6-6-7 sts left for the shoulder. When the piece measures 11-13-15 cm insert a marking thread (= the middle of the shoulder) – continue measures from this point. On the next row cast on 2 new sts at the neck side and put sts on a thread. 2nd shoulder piece: Knit as the 1st shoulder piece. Back piece: Put the sts from one of the shoulder pieces back on the needle, cast on 22-25-26 sts and put the sts from the other shoulder piece on the same needle = 38-41-44 sts. Continue in garter sts. When the piece measures 11-13-15 cm from the shoulder, bind off. Neck: Pick up approx 60 to 70 sts around the neck on double pointed needles size 4 mm. Knit Rib.
