------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up as far as the armholes. Then the front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth. Ribbed edges are worked around the neck and armholes to finish. BODY: Cast on 64-68-72-76-80-84 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm and DROPS Wish. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 3 cm. Change to circular needle size 9 mm. Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 16-18-21-24-27-30 cm. Now cast off stitches for the armholes as follows: Cast off the first 3 stitches, work the next 26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches, cast off 6 stitches, work the next 26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches and cast off the last 3 stitches = 26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches on the back and front pieces. Each piece is finished separately. FRONT PIECE: Work stocking stitch back and forth – AT THE SAME TIME cast off for the armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: 1 stitch 3 times on each side = 20-22-24-26-28-30 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 26-29-33-36-40-43 cm. On the next row place the middle 6-6-6-6-8-8 stitches on a thread for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately (= 7-8-9-10-10-11 stitches on each shoulder). Continue with stocking stitch and cast off on each row from the neck as follows: 1 stitch 1-2-2-2-2-2 times = 6-6-7-8-8-9 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. BACK PIECE: Work stocking stitch back and forth – AT THE SAME TIME cast off for the armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: 1 stitch 3 times on each side = 20-22-24-26-28-30 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 30-33-37-41-45-49 cm. On the next row cast off the middle 6-8-8-8-10-10 stitches for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately (= 7-8-9-10-10-11 stitches on each shoulder). Continue with stocking stitch. Cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 6-6-7-8-8-9 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams edge to edge, in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat. ARMHOLE-EDGES: Start from the right side at the bottom of the armhole and knit up 40 to 48 stitches inside 1 stitch around the armhole, using double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 mm and DROPS Wish (stitch number should be divisible by 4). Make sure the edge is not tight, (on the other hand, you don’t want too many stitches so the edge rolls outwards). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 2 ½ cm. Loosely cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP! Work the other armhole-edge in the same way. DOUBLE NECK: Knit up 32 to 52 stitches (including the stitches from the thread) with double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 mm and DROPS Wish (stitch number should be divisible by 4). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 11 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP! ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
