Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPERS– SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked back and forth in one piece. When piece is done, sew slipper together and felt in washing machine. SLIPPER: EDGE AT THE BACK: Cast on 23-25-26-28 stitches on needle size 5.5 mm with Alaska. Work 9 ridges in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! HEEL: Now work short rows to shape the heel, knit all rows (= ridges). Beginning from right side and work as follows: Knit until 1 stitch remain on row, turn and knit until 1 stitch remain on row. * Turn and knit until 1 stitch remain before previous turn, turn and knit until 1 stitch remain before previous turn *, work from *-* until 5-5-6-6 stitches remain in the middle of piece (9-10-10-11 turns in each side). Now work 1 stitch more on every turn until all stitches have been worked = 23-25-26-28 stitches. Insert a marker in the middle of row and use for measurements. UNDER SIDE: Work stitches in garter stitch and decrease 4 stitches evenly on first row = 19-21-22-24 stitches. Work in garter stitch until piece measures 18½-20-24-27 cm from marker inserted on heel. TOE: Now work short rows to shape the toe, knit all rows (= ridges). Work as follows from right side: Knit until 1 stitch remain on row, turn and knit until 1 stitch remain on row. * Turn and knit until 1 stitch remain before previous turn, turn and knit until 1 stitch remain before previous turn *, work from *-* until 5-5-6-6 stitches remain in the middle of piece (7-8-8-9 turns in each side). Now work 1 stitch more on every turn until all stitches have been worked = 19-21-22-24 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of row and use for measurements. TOP SIDE: Knit 1 row from right side and increase 3-3-2-2 stitches evenly on row = 22-24-24-26 stitches. Then work according to diagram as follows: Work 5-6-6-7 stitches in stocking stitch, work diagram A.1 over 12 stitches, and work 5-6-6-7 stitches in stocking stitch. Continue pattern like this. When piece measures 9-10-12-13 cm from marker and next row is from right side, increase 2 stitches evenly on each side of A.1 (= 4 stitches increased in total - increase with yarn overs that are purled twisted on next row) = 26-28-28-30 stitches. Work in stocking stitch and A.1 until 13½-15-19-22 cm have been worked in total from marker and next row is from right side. Now only work over the first 5 stitches on row, slip the remaining stitches on a stitch holder. Work in stocking stitch (knit first row from right side) and increase 1 stitch inside last stitch on every row from right side 5 times in total. Piece measures approx. 5 cm (make sure not to pull the piece). Cast off on next row from right side. Slip the outermost 5 stitches from opposite side of stitch holder back on needle (leave the middle 16-18-18-20 stitches on stitch holder). Work in stocking stitch (knit first row from right side) and increase 1 stitch inside first stitch on every row from right side 5 times in total. Piece measures approx. 5 cm (make sure not to pull the piece). Cast off on next row from right side. Slip the remaining 16-18-18-20 stitches from stitch holder back on needle. Work 1 row with knit over knit and purl over purl. Loosely cast off by knitting on next row from right side - it is important that the cast-off is elastic to avoid a tight edge. ASSEMBLY: Sew piece together from wrong side. Fold the piece at the toe, so that over side is on top of under side. Begin by sewing the 9 ridges from back edge together with the 10 stitch cast off at the edge in the side on top side. Then sew over side and under side together edge to edge until toe. Sew the same way along the other side of slipper. Work another slipper the same way but work diagram A.2 instead of diagram A.1. FELTING: Place the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the slipper to the correct measurements while still wet and leave to dry flat. At subsequent wash, wash as a wool garment. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
