------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. When A.1/A.4 are worked one time in height, continue with A.x onwards. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. The stitch count in A.1/A.4 variers as stitches are increased and decreased. The stitch counts in the text are based on 12 stitches in A.1/A.4. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The shoulders are worked separately back and forth. until the neckline is finished, then the front and back pieces are worked separately until the armholes are finished. The piece is joined and the body finished in the round. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. LEFT FRONT SHOULDER: Cast on 23-24-26-28-28-29-31 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and DROPS Lima or DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Continue with PATTERN – read explanation above, working the first row from the right side as follows: A.1 across the first 14-13-13-13-17-16-21 stitches (begin at the arrow for your size), work 1-3-5-7-3-5-2 stocking stitches, then A.2. Continue this pattern. Remember to continue with A.x when A.1 is finished in height. AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 2-2-3-3-4-4-5 cm, cast on stitches as follows for the neckline, at the end of each row from the wrong side (the new stitches are then worked into A.1). Make a note of where you begin to increase in the pattern. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Cast on 1 stitch 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times, 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-2-2-2 times and 3 stitches 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 time = 34-35-37-39-40-41-43 stitches. The last row is from the wrong side. Lay the piece to one side. RIGHT FRONT SHOULDER: Cast on 23-24-26-28-28-29-31 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and DROPS Lima or DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Continue with pattern, beginning from the right side as follows: Work A.3, then 1-3-5-7-3-5-2 stocking stitches and A.4 across the last 14-13-13-13-17-16-21 stitches. Continue this pattern. Remember to continue with A.x when A.1 is finished in height. AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 2-2-3-3-4-4-5 cm, cast on stitches for the neckline at the end of each row from the right side, adjusting so you begin 1 row earlier than on the left shoulder. The new stitches are worked into A.4. Cast on 1 stitch 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times, 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-2-2-2 times and 3 stitches 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 time = 34-35-37-39-40-41-43 stitches. On the next row from the right side cast on stitches for the neckline between the 2 front shoulders as follows: Work across the 34-35-37-39-40-41-43 stitches on the right shoulder as before, cast on 15-17-17-17-19-21-23 stitches, work across the 34-35-37-39-40-41-43 stitches on the left shoulder as before = 83-87-91-95-99-103-109 stitches. FRONT PIECE: Continue the established pattern from the wrong side, purling the cast-on stitches mid-front. On the next row (from the right side), work pattern as follows: A.3 (= 8 stitches), 1-3-5-7-3-5-2 stocking stitches, A.4 until there are 9-11-13-15-11-13-10 stitches left (finishing with the 5 first stitches in A.4), work 1-3-5-7-3-5-2 stocking stitches, then A.2 (= 8 stitches). Continue this pattern back and forth. When the piece measures 21-20-23-22-22-20-19 cm from the shoulder, increase by working 1 yarn over inside A.3/A.2 on each side. The new stitches are purled twisted on the next row, then worked into A.4. Increase 1 stitch on every 2nd row 3-6-4-6-8-11-14 times on each side = 89-99-99-107-115-125-137 stitches. Work until the piece measures 24-25-26-27-28-29-30 cm from the cast-on edge. On the next row from the right side, cast on 7-9-9-13-17-19-19 stitches at the end of the row for the armhole = 96-108-109-120-132-144-156 stitches. Lay the piece to one side. Continue this pattern. AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 2 cm, cast on 1 stitch for the neckline at the end of the next row from the wrong side = 24-25-27-29-29-30-32 stitches. Lay the piece to one side. LEFT BACK SHOULDER: Cast on 23-24-26-28-28-29-31 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and DROPS Lima or DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Continue with pattern, beginning from the right side as follows: A.3, work 1-3-5-7-3-5-2 stocking stitches, A.4 across the last 14-13-13-13-17-16-21 stitches. Continue this pattern. AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 2 cm, cast on 1 stitch for the neckline at the end of the next row from the right side = 24-25-27-29-29-30-32 stitches. Work back from the wrong side as before. On the next row (from the right side) cast on stitches for the neckline between the 2 back shoulders as follows: Work across the 24-25-27-29-29-30-32 stitches on the left shoulder as before, cast on 35-37-37-37-41-43-45 stitches, work across the 24-25-27-29-29-30-32 stitches on the right shoulder as before = 83-87-91-95-99-103-109 stitches. When the piece measures 21-20-23-22-22-20-19 cm from the shoulder, begin increasing for the armholes on the same row as on the front piece, by making 1 yarn over inside A.3/A.2 on each side. The front and back pieces are now joined for the body. BODY: Across the front piece, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) across the 8 stitches in A.3, continue the pattern until there are 15-17-17-18-25-27-27 stitches left, work rib (purl 1, knit 1) across the stitches in A.2 (= 8 stitches), work rib across the 7-9-9-10-17-19-19 cast-on stitches, then work the back piece in the same way = 192-216-216-240-264-288-312 stitches. Continue in the round. After 2 cm of rib, work A.4 across all stitches, matching the beginning of the pattern to the established pattern on the body. Work until the piece measures 21-23-23-24-25-26-27 cm from the join, finishing after a complete repeat of A.4 in height. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Knit 1 round and increase 30-30-30-36-40-44-46 stitches evenly spaced = 222-246-246-276-304-332-358 stitches. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 4-4-5-5-5-5-5 cm. Cast off slightly loosely with rib. The vest measures approx. 49-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the shoulders. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams.
