I was just wondering, if I wanted to make this all one color, would I still only chain 5 to do the second row or would I chain 6 instead, because I'm not adding the sl st to join the green yarn?

Dear Amanda, if working with 1 colour, you can just follow diagram as it is now, ie at the end of 1st row finish with 1 sc then start 2nd row with 5 ch. Happy crocheting!
