DROPS 79-21 |

Gauge: 14 sts x 20 rows with 1 strand Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Rib: * K 3, P 3 *, repeat from * - *. Knitting tip (for edge sts): The pieces are sewn together using 2 edge sts as seam allowance, which is seen on the right side of work. These 2 edge sts are knit as follows: Slip the first st at the beginning of the row and knit the 2nd st, at the end of the row K 2 (garter st) – if the piece has an edge that will not be sewn on the outside, it will have only 1 edge st at one of the sides, knit in garter st. Cardigan: Each front is knit in 3 pieces, back in 3 pieces and each sleeve in 3 pieces. The pieces are sewn together with the seams on right side. Right front side-1 (= center front): Cast on 21-22-23-24-25 sts on smaller needles with 1 strand natural Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 4 rows garter st, change to larger needles and stockinette st, with 2 edge sts at one side, and 1 edge st at center front edge, knit as explained in Knitting tip. When the piece measures 33-34-35-36-37 cm K 1 wrong side row, then bind off all sts with K sts from right side. Right front side-2 (= side edge): Cast on 20-22-24-26-28 sts on smaller needles, with 1 strand flint Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 4 rows garter st, change to larger needles and continue with stockinette st, keeping 2 edge sts at side which will be sewn to Side-1 and 1 edge st which will be the side seam, as explained in Knitting tip. When the piece measures 10 cm inc 1 st at the side edge (that is, the side with only 1 edge st): every 8 cm a total of 3 times = 23-25-27-29-31 sts. When the piece measures 33-34-35-36-37 cm knit 1 row from the wrong side over all sts, then bind off all sts with knit sts from right side. Right front side-3 (= shoulder): Cast on 40-43-46-49-52 sts on larger needles with 1 strand beige Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 1 row from wrong side and then knit stockinette st, with one edge st at each side. After 2 rows bind off for armhole at the side edge every other row: 4 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2-3-4-5-6 times and 1 st 3 times. When the piece measures 6-7-8-9-10 cm bind off for the neck every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 6-6-7-7-7 times = 18-19-19-20-21 sts remain on shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 20-21-22-23-24 cm. Assembly front: Sew side-1 and side-2 together using 2 edge sts as seam allowance – with seam out on the right side. Sew side-3 to top edge of the 2 other sides – use the 2 top rows of sides-1 + -2 and the 2 bottom rows of side-3. After assembly the front measures 52-54-56-58-60 cm long. Left front: Knit all 3 sides the same as the right front, reversing shaping. Use the following color combinations: Side-1: beige Silke-Tweed + Vivaldi. Side-2: natural Silke-Tweed + Vivaldi. Side-3: flint Silke-Tweed + Vivaldi. Back right side: Cast on 38-41-44-47-51 sts on smaller needles with 1 strand flint Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 4 rows garter st, change to larger needles and stockinette st (keeping 1 edge st at the side edge and 2 edge sts at center back edge – see Knitting tip). When the piece measures 10 cm inc 1 st at the side edge (that is, the side with only 1 edge st) every 8 cm a total of 3 times = 41-44-47-50-53 sts. When the piece measures 33-34-35-36-37 cm knit 1 row from the wrong side over all sts, then bind off all sts with knit sts from right side. Back left side: Knit the same as the right side, reversing shaping, with natural Silke-Tweed and Vivaldi. Back shoulder part: Cast on 78-84-90-96-102 sts (incl. 1 edge st at each side) on larger needles with 1 strand beige Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 1 row from the wrong side and change to stockinette st. After 2 rows bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 4 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2-3-4-5-6 times and 1 st 3 times = 56-58-60-62-64 sts remain. When the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22 cm bind off the center 18-18-20-20-20 sts for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge = 18-19-19-20-21 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 20-21-22-23-24 cm. Assembly Back: Sew right and left sides at center back as on front sides. Then sew shoulder part to top edge of the 2 sides. After assembly the back measures 52-54-56-58-60 cm long. Sleeve side-1 (= cuff): Cast on 38-40-40-42-42 sts on smaller needles with 1 strand flint Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 4 rows garter st, change to larger needles and stockinette st, keeping 1 edge st at each side (see Knitting tip). When the piece measures 12 cm knit 1 row from wrong side, then bind off all sts on the next row with knit sts. Sleeve side-2 (= underarm): Cast on 16 sts on larger needles with 1 strand beige Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 1 row from wrong side, change to stockinette st (with 2 edge sts at each side – see Knitting tip). When the piece measures 4 cm inc 1 st at each side inside the 2 edge sts every 4.5-3.5-3-2.5-2 cm 7-8-9-10-11 times = 30-32-34-36-38 sts - knit the increased sts in stockinette st. When the piece measures 34-32-31-30-29 cm bind off the 6 center sts. Knit each side separately. Now bind off every other row at center edge: 2 sts 3-2-2-2-2 times, 1 st 3-6-7-8-9 times and 3 sts 1 time. All sts are now bound off and the piece measures 40 cm to longest point. Sleeve side-3 (upper-arm): Cast on 28-30-30-32-32 sts on larger needles with natural Silke-Tweed + Vivaldi. Knit 1 row from wrong side, change to stockinette st (with 2 edge sts at each side). When the piece measures 40 cm bind off at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time and 3 sts 1 time. Then bind off all sts. The piece measures approx. 43 cm. Assembly sleeves: Sew cuffs using 1 edge st as seam allowance, with the seam inside. Sew upper- and under-arm using 2 edge sts with seam on the outside toward front. Sew cuffs to the rest of sleeves using 2 rows with the seam on the outside. Knit a second sleeve, reversing shaping. Assembly cardigan: Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams using 1 edge st as seam allowance, with the seam on the inside. Left buttonband: Pick up 59-71 sts (divisible by 6 + 5) along left front on smaller needles with 1 strand flint Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 1 row from wrong side and then K 1 row from right side. Then knit rib - see instructions above - keeping 1 st at each edge in garter st and K 3 at top and lower edges (seen from the right side). When edge measures 3.5 cm bind off all sts in rib. Right buttonband: Knit the same as the left - at the same time after 1 cm make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed on buttonbands – the top buttonhole should be 0.5 cm from top edge and the bottom one approx. 6 cm from lower edge. 1 buttonhole = dec 1 st and cast on 1 new sts over the bound-off st on the next row. Neckband: Pick up approx. 70-80 sts around the neck on smaller needles with 1 strand flint Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 5 rows garter st, bind off. Sew in sleeves and buttons. |
