------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams M.1 to M.5. Diagram shows all rows in pattern seen from the right side. The whole pattern is worked in stocking stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- Body: Cast on 243 (259-283) sts (including 1 edge st at each side) on smaller circular needles with black and knit 3 cm stockinette st back and forth on the needles, purl 1 row (for the folding edge - measure the work from here). Change to larger circular needles, inc 3 sts at the center front (these 3 sts + 2 edge sts = 5 sts - these are for the steek and are not knit into the pattern). Join and knit Pattern 1 once, then Pattern 2. Start Pattern 2 at the appropriate arrow on the chart after the 5 steek sts at the center front. After Pattern 2 knit Pattern 3 once, then stockinette st with black to finished dimensions. When the work measures 30 (30-31) cm, knit the next row as follows: 5 steek sts at the center front, 58 (62-68) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 117 (125-137) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 58 (62-68) sts for the front. Knit the rest of the front and back separately. Front: = 116 (124-136) sts + 5 steek sts. Bind off for armholes on each side every other row: 2 sts 1 (1-3) times, 1 st 1 (3-4) times = 110 (114-116) sts + 5 steek sts. When the work measures 46 (47-48) cm, bind off the center 38 (40-40) sts + 5 steek sts for the neck. Bind off when the work measures 54 (55-56) cm. Back: = 117 (125-137) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front = 111 (115-117) sts. When the work measures 52 (53-54) cm , bind off the center 35 (37-37) sts for the neck. Then bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures approx. 54 (55-56) cm . Sleeves: Cast on 56 (56-56) sts on smaller double pointed needles with black; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 3 cm stockinette st, purl 1 row (for the folding edge - measure the work from here). Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1 once, then Pattern 4 once. After Pattern 4, knit stockinette st with black to finished dimensions and inc 1 st each side of marker 27 (30-30) times: Size S S: every 4th row Size M: alternately every 3rd and 4th row Size L: every 3rd row = 110 (116-116) sts. When the work measures 47 (46-45) cm , bind off 2 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off for sleeve caps on each side every other row: 5 (5-3) sts 7 (8-11) times, bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the steek sts at the center front. Sew two machine seams around the marker threads, first seam = ½ stitch from the thread, 2nd seam = ½ stitch from the first seam. Cut up for armholes. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 108-116 sts along the left front on smaller circular needles with black and knit 3 cm stockinette st, purl 1 row (= folding edge), 3 cm stockinette st, bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and increase 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row). Make corresponding buttonholes on the folding edge. Place the uppermost buttonhole 0.5 cm from the upper edge. Pick up approx. 126-136 sts around the neck and over the buttonbands on smaller double pointed needles with black. Attach a marker in each corner of the neck at the front. Knit Pattern 5, purl 1 row (= folding edge), 8 rows with black and at the same time, dec 1 st each side of each marker every other row. Make decreases as follows: Before the marker: K 2 tog, after the marker: slip 1, K 1, psso. After the folding edge, inc 1 st each side of each marker corresponding to the decreases, bind off. Sew on the sleeves. Fold all edges over against the wrong side and sew. Sew on the buttons. |
