Gauge: 9 sts with 1 strand of each yarn (2 strands) in Pattern = 20 cm wide. Pattern: Row 1 (right side): * K 1, yo *, repeat * - * and finish with K 1. Row 2 (wrong side): K, letting yos from previous row drop (= long st). Binding off tips (for neck, shoulder, collar and lower edge on sleeve): Always bind off on Row 2 of the pattern, but instead of letting the yos drop, bind off the yos and the sts so that the edge will be stretchy. Measuring-tips: All measurements should be made when the piece is held up, otherwise the cardigan will be too long when worn. Stripe Pattern: Body: Leave an end of both strands approx. 15 cm at the center front edges when changing colors – these strands will make the fringe. 6 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 4 rows: brown heather Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: brown heather Highlander + plum Vienna 4 rows: blue Highlander + plum Vienna 2 rows: light blue Highlander + plum Vienna 4 rows: light blue Highlander + olive Vienna 2 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + olive Vienna 2 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 4 rows: light blue Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: blue Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: blue Highlander + plum Vienna 2 rows: light olive heather Highlander + plum Vienna 4 rows: light olive heather Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: brown heather Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: brown heather Highlander + plum Vienna 2 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + plum Vienna 2 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + grey-blue Vienna then knit to finished measurements: light blue Highlander + grey-blue Vienna Sleeve: Do not leave ends for fringe on sleeves. 2 rows: light blue Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + olive Vienna 4 rows: light blue Highlander + olive Vienna 2 rows: light blue Highlander + plum Vienna 4 rows: blue Highlander + plum Vienna 2 rows: brown heather Highlander + plum Vienna 2 rows: brown heather Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 4 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + grey-blue Vienna 2 rows: beige multicolor Highlander + olive Vienna then knit to finished measurements: light blue Highlander + olive Vienna Back: Cast on 26-29-30-33-35 sts with 1 strand beige multicolor Highlander + 1 strand grey-blue Vienna around 2 needles so the edge will be stretchy, then pull out one needle. Knit 2 rows garter st, decreasing 4 sts on the 1st row = 22-25-26-29-31 sts. Then knit Pattern following Stripe Pattern – see instructions above. When the piece measures 20 cm – see Measuring-tips above – dec 1 st at each side = 20-23-24-27-29 sts. When the piece measures 77-80-83-86-89 cm bind off 2-3-3-4-5 sts at each side for armhole = 16-17-18-19-19 sts. When the piece measures 92-96-100-104-108 cm bind off the center 6-7-8-9-9 sts for the neck = 5 sts remain on each shoulder. Knit 1 row back and bind off – see binding off tips. The piece measures approx. 96-100-104-108-112 cm. Right front: Cast on 17-19-19-21-22 sts with 1 strand beige multicolor Highlander + 1 strand blue-grey Vienna around 2 needles as on back. Knit 2 rows garter st, decreasing 2 sts on the 1st row = 15-17-17-19-20 sts. Then knit Pattern following Stripe Pattern as on back – remember to leave long strands for fringe at center front. When the piece measures 40 cm – see Measuring-tips – dec 1 st at the side = 14-16-16-18-19 sts. When the piece measures 77-80-83-86-89 cm bind off for armhole at the side as on back – and at the same time inc 1 st inside of 1 edge st at the center front = 13-14-14-15-15 sts. When the piece measures 87-90-93-96-99 cm inc 1 st inside of 1 edge st at the center front = 14-15-15-16-16 sts. When the piece measures 96-100-104-108-112 cm – to match back – bind off the 5 shoulder sts – see binding off tips – and put the remaining 9-10-10-11-11 sts on a st holder for collar. Left front: Cast on and knit the same as the right, reversing shaping. So that the colors match at center front, knit 1 row from right side (instead of 2 rows garter st), decreasing 2 sts evenly distributed on the row. Then knit Pattern – see instructions above – the 1st row of the pattern will be the wrong side. Sleeve: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up sts along armhole and knit down – see Fig.1 (do not pick up sts over the 2-3-3-4-5 sts bound off for armhole on Body). Pick up 17-18-19-20-21 sts with 1 strand light blue Highlander + 1 strand grey-blue Vienna knit Pattern following Stripe Pattern – see instructions above. When the piece measures approx. 4-7-7-9-11 cm put a marker at each side (this marks where sleeves will be sewn to Body) – measure the work from here. When the piece measures 3-5-5-5-3 cm dec 1 st at one side. When the piece measures 10-11-11-9-7 cm dec 1 st at the other side. Repeat dec 2-2-2-3-3 times more at each side with 7-6-6-4-4 cm between each dec = 11-12-13-12-13 sts. Continue until the piece measures 56 cm and then bind off – see binding off tips. Collar: Pick up 20-22-24-26-26 sts around the neck (incl. sts from st holders) with 1 strand light blue Highlander + 1 strand blue-grey Vienna and knit Pattern. When the collar measures 15 cm from shoulder inc 1 st at each side inside 1 edge st = 22-24-26-28-28 sts. When the collar measures 20 cm bind off all sts – see binding off tips. Assembly: Sew side seams so that the seam will not be stretchy. Sew sleeves up to the markers and sew sleeves to Body – the markers on sleeve should match up with the side seam on Body. Sew seams so that they will not be stretchy. Fringe: Fasten 1 fringe tuft in every other row along both front edges, from the collar down to lower edge. First knot together the 2 strands from each color change to secure the sts. Cut Highlander and Vienna into 30 cm lengths. Put 1 strand of each yarn together, fold strands in half, pull loop through edge sts (one tuft between each of the knotted ends) and pull ends through loops. The knotted ends and the fringe tufts will be different thicknesses. Belt: Loosely cast on 4 sts around 2 needles with 1 strand light blue Highlander + 1 strand blue-grey Vienna, pull out one needle and knit Pattern until belt measures approx. 120-150 cm, bind off. |
