------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 7 7-7 (7-8-8) stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-7-7 (7-8-8) stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-6-6 (6-7-7) stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-6-6 (6-7-7) stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 10-14-14 (14-14-16) stitches left on the needle. DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 60 stitches) and divide by number of decreases to be made (e.g. 10) = 6. In this example decrease by knitting together each 5th and 6th stitch. DECREASE TIP-2: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together, then knit 2 twisted together. Repeat at the second marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. SOCK: Cast on 56-60-64 (64-68-72) stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and DROPS Fabel. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) in the round for 4-5-5 (5-6-6) cm. Knit 1 round where you decrease 10-10-10 (10-10-10) stitches evenly spaced - read DECREASE TIP-1 = 46-50-54 (54-58-62) stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the piece measures 6-7-7 (7-8-8) cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Place the last 24-24-28 (28-30-32) stitches on a thread (= top of foot), continue with stocking stitch back and forth over the other 22-26-26 (26-28-30) stitches (= heel) for 5-5½-5½ (6-6-7) cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row; this is used to measure the foot. Now work HEEL DECREASES – read description above! When the heel decreases are finished, knit up 12-13-13(13-14-16) stitches on each side of the heel and place the stitches from the thread back on the needles = 58-64-68 (68-72-80) stitches. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 24-24-28 (28-30-32) stitches on top of the foot. Work stocking stitch in the round, AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease as follows: Knit twisted together the last 2 stitches before the 24-24-28 (28-30-32) stitches on top of the foot and knit together the first 2 stitches after the 24-24-28 (28-30-32) stitches on top of the foot. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 7-8-8 (8-8-10) times = 44-48-52 (52-56-60) stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 13-14-15½ (17½-19-20½) cm from the heel-marker – measured under the foot. Try the sock on and work to desired length; there is approx. 4-4-4½ (4½-5-6½) cm left. Insert 1 marker in each side, with 22-24-26 (26-28-30) stitches both on top of and underneath the foot. On the next round decrease 1 stitch on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 6-5-5 (5-7-9) times, then every round 2-4-5 (5-4-4) times = 12 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The sock measures approx. 17-18-20 (22-24-27) cm from the heel-marker, measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. |
