------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN ------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 5-5-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 5-5-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 4-4-5 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 4-4-5 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 10-10-10 stitches left on the needle. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked with 2 strands. The leg is worked in the round, down to the heel. The heel is worked back and forth, then the foot is finished in the round. SOCK: Cast on 48-48-52 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Knit 1 round, then work rib (knit 2, purl 2). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work rib for 20 cm. Now keep the first 22-22-26 stitches on the needle for the heel (the first 2 and last 2 of these stitches are knitted), place the last 26-26-26 stitches on 1 thread (= top of foot). Work stocking stitch back and forth over the heel-stitches for 5-5½-6 cm – AT THE SAME TIME, on 1st row decrease 4-4-6 stitches evenly spaced = 18-18-20 stitches. Insert 1 marker – the foot is measured from here! Now work HEEL DECREASES – see explanation above! After the heel decreases knit up 10-10-11 stitches on each side of the heel and the 26-26-26 stitches from the thread are placed back on the needles = 56-56-58 stitches. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 26-26-26 stitches on top of the foot. Continue with rib over the stitches on top of the foot and stocking stitch over the other stitches – AT THE SAME TIME decrease in each side as follows: Knit twisted together the last 2 stitches before the stitches on top of the foot and knit together the first 2 stitches after the stitches on top of the foot. Decrease like this every round 8-6-5 times = 40-44-48 stitches. Continue with rib over the 26-26-26 stitches on top of the foot and stocking stitch over the other 14-18-22 stitches until the foot measures 18-20-22 cm from the marker on the heel (= 4-4-5 cm left). Insert 1 marker in each side, with 20-22-24 stitches both on top and underneath the foot. Finish with stocking stitch, AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease for the toe on each side of both markers; decrease as follows when there are 3 stitches left before the marker: Knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker between these 2 stitches), knit 2 twisted together. Decrease like this every 2nd round 3-3-4 times, then every round 3-4-4 times = 16-16-16 stitches left. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 8-8-8 stitches. Cut the strands and pull them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. Work the other sock in the same way. |
