Having trouble with instructions for left back shoulder; kindly assist! In the phrase "Knit 8 rows garter st over the sts on the left shoulder..." what does it mean by "over"? Is this double layer knitting, or does it just mean to knit garter st from the sts that were on hold while knitting the right shoulder? TIA!
30.11.2021 - 21:16DROPS Design answered:
Dear Milou, over means simply to continue working from the stitches on hold in a thread. Happy knitting!

Gauge: 24 sts x 32 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm . Border: Knit 3-3-3-4 (4-4-4) cm stockinette st, P 1 row (right side row -- for folding edge - measure the work from here), then knit 3-3-3-4 (4-4-4) cm stockinette st. Stripe Pattern: Knit in stockinette st: * 2 rows red, 4 rows natural *. Repeat * - * throughout. Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows. Body: Cast on 168-180-192-216 (228-240-252) sts with natural on smaller circular needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit Border. Change to larger circular needles and knit Stripe Pattern. When the work measures 24-25-26-28 (29-30-32) cm knit the next row as follows: bind off 2 sts for armhole, 80-86-92-104 (110-116-122) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 80-86-92-104 (110-116-122) sts for the back, bind off 2 sts for armhole. Knit the rest of the front and back separately. Front: = 80-86-92-104 (110-116-122) sts. Bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 3 sts 0-0-0-1 (1-2-3) times, 2 sts 2-2-1-2 (3-2-3) times, 1 st 2-3-3-3 (3-4-2) times = 68-72-82-84 (86-88-88) sts. When spacing the buttonholes consider whether or not you wish to have a buttonhole at the neck edge. When the work measures 37-40-43-47 (49-51-53) cm put sts on a st holder. Back: = 80-86-92-104 (110-116-122) sts. Bind off for armhole as on the front 68-72-82-84 (86-88-88) sts. When the work measures 25-29-32-34 (38-40-43) cm bind off 2 sts each side of marker and knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needles. Bind off for sleeve caps at each side every other row: 4 sts 1 time, 1 st 4-4-4-7(8-10-12) times, 2 sts 2 times, 4 sts 1 time, bind off. The work measures approx. 30-34-37-41 (46-49-53) cm . Assembly: Sew right shoulder seam. Pick up approx. 80-110 sts around the neck beginning at the left shoulder on smaller needles with natural and knit 2 cm Border - if a buttonhole in the neck edge is desired, make one buttonhole after the 1st row in line with the buttonholes on the left shoulder - remember to make a corresponding buttonhole on the facing, bind off. Fold all edges over double against the wrong side and sew. Pick up sts on the front left shoulder and pick up approx. 8 sts in the edge sts on the neck edge through the double layer and knit 2 rows garter st, bind off.
