When is the 4.5mm needle used? Pattern says to use "larger circular needle" to pick up around neck, should this read "smaller circular needle" ?
17.10.2017 - 18:39DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Paterson, you will pick up stitches around whole opening of shrug with the needle size 4,5 mm - pattern will be edited asap. Thank you. Happy knitting!

Danke.

DROPS Bolero in Paris & Cotton Viscose
DROPS 64-22 |
|
Knitting Tension: 15 stitches x 22 rows using 6mm needle = 10 x 10 cm. Rib 1: *knit 3, purl 1*, repeat from * to * Rib 2: *knit 6, purl 1*, repeat from * to * The bolero is knitted in one piece, beginning at the right sleeve, and using double thread. Pattern: Cast on 63-70-77 sts using 6mm double pointed needles with 1 thread Paris + 1 thread Cotton Viscose, i.e. double thread. Knit Rib 2. When sleeve measures 5 cm, decrease 9-10-11 sts evenly on round as follows: *knit 4, knit 2 together, purl 1*, repeat from * to * = 54-60-66 sts at the end of round. When sleeve measures 10 cm, decrease 9-10-11 sts evenly on round as follows: *lift 1st off, knit 1and pull through st off, knit 3, purl 1*, repeat from * to * = 45-50-55 sts at the end of round. When sleeve measures 15 cm, decrease 9-10-11 sts evenly on round as follows: *knit 2, knit 2 together, purl 1*, repeat from * to * = 36-40-44 sts at the end of round. Continue in Rib 1. At the same time, when sleeve measures 18 cm, increase 2 sts mid under arm (on either side of a purled st) on every 3.5 cm a total of 10 times = 56-60-64 sts. Incorporate the increased sts in Rib1 as you go along. . When piece measures 54-53-54 cm, transfer sts to circular needle 6mm (beginning and end mid under arm) and continue knitting back and forth on circular needle – measure piece from here from now on! Now decrease at one end of piece (= the front) and increase at the other (= the back) as follows: decrease on every other row, 2 sts 5-6-6 times, 1 st 14-14-16 times and increase on every other row 1 st 10-12-12 times – incorporate the increased sts in Rib 1 as you go along. After all decreases at front and increases on the back, there are 42-46-48 sts left on needle. When piece measures 18-20-20 cm, put sts on thread from the bottom of the back towards the neck on every other row as follows: 8 sts 4 times = 10-14-16 sts left on needle. You have now reached the middle of the bolero and will knit the other half by doing opposite decreases and increases as follows: When the last 8 sts have been put on thread, knit one row and then put sts back on needle on every other row as follows: 8 sts 4 times = 43-46-48 sts. When piece measures 29-30-31 cm, increase at one end (= the front where you decreased on other half) on every other row as follows: 1 st 14-14-16 times, 2 sts 5-6-6 times. At the same time, after 9-8-10 increases, decrease at the other end (= the back where you increased on the other half) on every other row 1 st 10-12-12 times. After all increases and decreases, there are 56-60-64 sts on needle. Insert a marking thread and measure the piece from here from now on. Change to double pointed needles and continue knitting left sleeve. When sleeve measures 3.5 cm (from marking thread), decrease 2 sts mid under arm (on either side of a purled st) on every 3.5 cm a total of 10 times = 36-40-44 sts. Incorporate the increased sts in Rib1 as you go along. When sleeve measures 39-38-39 cm, increase 9-10-11 sts evenly on round as follows: *knit 2, knit 2 in same st, purl 1*, repeat from * to * = 45-50-55 sts. When sleeve measures 45 cm, increase 9-10-11 sts evenly on round as follows: *knit 2 in same st, knit 3, purl 1*, repeat from * to * = 54-60-66 sts at the end of round. When sleeve measures 50 cm increase 9-10-11 sts evenly on round as follows: *knit 4, knit 2 in same st, purl 1*, repeat from * to * = 63-70-77 sts. Continue in Rib 2 until sleeve measures 54-53-54 cm and cast off. To make up: Pick up approx 140-156 sts round neck/armhole (dividable by 4) using circular needle 4.5mm and 1 thread Paris + 1 thread Cotton Viscose. Purl one round, continue next round with *K2, P2*, repeat from *-*. When border measures 4 cm, increase knit 2 to knit 3 as follows: *knit 1, knit 2 in same st, purl 2*, repeat from * to *. Cast off when border measures 8 cm. |
