Warning ... I am knitting this in the largest size (age 7/8 years) and 50g of the orange Drops Karisma is not enough. I have run out of wool and need to buy another ball of wool. My knitting tension exactly matches the pattern.

Hi how long should the 1 year old hat be in total from the rolled out edge till the start of the A2 pattern? I'm a bit confused if it should be 16cm (6cm for the brim and 8cm for the A1 pattern) or just 8cm (6cm for the brim and 2cm of A1 pattern)
08.10.2026 - 12:44DROPS Design answered:
Hi Tanya, You insert 1 marker after the rolled edge and continue measuring from here. Then you work 8 cm from the marker = 14 cm in total, before decreasing the stitches evenly and inserting new markers. Regards, Drops Team.

How long is your delivery time

Hi Jenny, You source your yarn either in a local yarn store or online and the delivery times will be given when you order (we do not send out yarn). There is a drop-down menu at the top of the pattern which will help you find a store. Regards, Drops Team.

I am confused by the pattern. I have read your comments and you are advised in A1 to knit the second row and further on you advise garter stitch. However the picture suggests that the pattern should be knitted in a stocking stitch which means the A1 should have an alternative purl row. I would really appreciate clarification. Thank you.
22.09.2026 - 22:00DROPS Design answered:
Hi Gillian, I have checked the pattern and there is no mention of garter stitch. You are working in the round, so all rounds are knitted for the stocking stitch, with a line of purled stitches in the pattern (A.1). Regards, Drops Team.

The A1 diagram and A2 diagram is unclear. The photo of the hat appears to show a stocking stitch but the diagram does not explain the every other row should be a purl row. Could you please clarify asap because I am knitting for my grandson for Halloween. Thank you
22.09.2026 - 18:28DROPS Design answered:
Hi Gillian, The hat is worked in the round in stocking stitch, so all rounds are knitted with a vertical line of purled stitches (1 stitch in each repeat) in A.1. Regards, Drops Team.

Dear Helen, you may be able to knit it flat and then sew it in the back, but you will need to adapt the pattern yourself. Happy knitting!

How many grams of orange and how many grams of green approximately please. Bit 🤔
06.09.2026 - 09:31DROPS Design answered:
Dear Helen, the amount of grams of each color is indicated in the materials section: 50g colour no 11, orange and 50 g colour no 47, forest green. While you may have enough green if you have approx. 30gr of yarn, it's better to have 1 whole ball of DROPS Karisma orange, especially for the larger sizes. We count the amounts in number of balls so we don't have the exact amount of yarn of each colour for each size, just the number of balls required. Happy knitting!

PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Pattern in diagrams are seen from RS. ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT: Cast on 84-90-96-102-108 sts with orange on double pointed needles or circular needle size 3.5 mm. P 1 round, then work in stocking st. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 6 cm, insert 1 marker (= rolling edge), now measure the piece from here and work according to diagram A.1. When piece measures 7-8-9-10-12 cm, dec 3-0-6-3-0 sts evenly = 81-90-90-99-108 sts. Then insert 9-10-10-11-12 markers in the piece 9 sts apart. First st after first marker = first st in A.2. Now work A.2, but continue with K and P as in A.1 in the orange section. After A.2 work with forest green until finished - AT THE SAME TIME dec every other round: 1 st on right side of all markers until 9-10-10-11-12 sts remain on needle. Switch to double pointed needles size 2 mm and work 3 cm over these sts for stem. Pull yarn through the remaining sts and fasten. |
