------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. KNITTING TIP: To avoid the knitting tension becoming tight when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if this is necessary. DECREASE TIP-1 (for leg): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). DECREASE TIP-2 (for toe): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl until there are 8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Knit until there are 7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl until there are 7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 14-16-18 stitches left. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked from leg to toe in the round, with double pointed needles. While the heel and heel-decreases are worked, the other stitches wait. Stitches are knitted up on each side of the finished heel and the foot is continued in the round while decreasing on each side. When the correct foot-length has been achieved, decreases are worked for the toe. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. LEG: Cast on 68-68-80 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and colour Off White DROPS Nord. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 2 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round (= mid-back). Allow the thread to follow your work onwards, it is used when decreasing mid-back later. Work PATTERN – read explanation above, as follows: Read KNITTING TIP. Work A.1, 3-3-4 times in width, then A.2, 1-1-0 times in width. Continue this pattern Remember to maintain the knitting tension. On each round marked with an arrow in the diagram, decrease stitches as follows: ARROW-1: Decrease 4-2-5 stitches evenly spaced = 64-66-75 stitches. ARROW-2: Decrease 4-2-5 stitches evenly spaced = 60-64-70 stitches. When A.1 and A.2 are finished in height, the leg measures approx. 10 cm from the cast-on edge. Continue with stocking stitch and colour Chestnut. When the leg measures 11 cm, decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread – read DECREASE TIP-1. Decrease like this every 6th round a total of 3-3-4 times = 54-58-62 stitches. When the leg measures 16-17-18 cm, work the heel and foot as described below. HEEL: Keep the first 14-15-16 stitches on the needles for the heel, place the next 26-28-30 stitches on a stitch holder (= top of foot), keep the last 14-15-16 stitches on the needles for the heel = 28-30-32 heel-stitches. Work stocking stitch back and forth across the heel-stitches for 6-6-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row. The foot is measured from here. Work HEEL DECREASES – read explanation above. FOOT: After the heel decreases work as follows: Knit across the 14-16-18 heel-stitches, knit up 16-16-17 stitches along the side of the heel, knit across the 26-28-30 stitches from the stitch holder, knit up 16-16-17 stitches along the other side of the heel = 72-76-82 stitches. Work to mid-under the heel. The round now starts here. Insert 1 marker-thread on each side of the 26-28-30 stitches on top of the foot. Continue with stocking stitch in the round and decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker thread and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker-thread. Decrease like this every round a total of 4-4-5 times, then every 2nd round 8 times = 48-52-56 stitches. Continue working until the foot measures 15-16-18 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. Now work A.3 in the round. When A.3 is finished in height, the foot measures approx. 18-19-21 cm from the marker, measured under the foot. If the foot is shorter than this, continue with stocking stitch and colour Off White to the correct length. There is approx. 4-5-6 cm left. Try the sock on and work to desired length with colour Off White before working the toe. TOE: Insert 1 marker-thread in each side, with 24-26-28 stitches both on top of and underneath the foot. Continue with stocking stitch and colour Off White. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round decrease on each side of both marker-threads - read DECREASE TIP-2 (4 decreased stitches). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 4-7-9 times, then every round 5-3-2 times = 12 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-27 cm from the marker, measured under the foot. |
