Dear Tina, the 50g of each colour is because 50g is the minimal unit possible of each colour, since we use 50g balls for this piece. If you work a single colour version you'd need approx. 3 balls of yarn of that colour. Happy crochetting!

The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round. STRIPES: Work the first 5-6-6 rounds in colour red, then: * 3 rounds with colour orange, 3 rounds with colour dandelion, 3 rounds with colour parrot green, 3 rounds with colour royal blue, 3 rounds with colour purple, 3 rounds with colour red *, work from *-* to finished length – finish with a complete stripe. COLOUR-CHANGE: When changing colours, it is neatest if the last slip stitch on the round is worked with the new colour. SIZE L/XL: ROUND 15: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 13 stitches, 2 double crochets in the next stitch *, work from *-* to the end of the round = 90 stitches. ROUND 16: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 14 stitches, 2 double crochets in the next stitch *, work from *-* to the end of the round = 96 stitches. The increases are finished in size L/XL. ALL SIZES: = 88-92-96 stitches. Work 16-16-19 more rounds of stripes, without further increases, until the piece measures approx. 15-15-16½ cm. BRIM: ROUND 1: Work 1 double crochet in each stitch and increase 14-14-14 stitches evenly spaced - read INCREASE TIP = 102-106-110 stitches. ROUNDS 2-4: Work 1 double crochet in each stitch. ROUND 5: Work 1 double crochet in each stitch and increase 12-13-13 stitches evenly spaced = 114-119-123 stitches. ROUNDS 6-8: Work 1 double crochet in each stitch. ROUND 9: Work 1 double crochet in each stitch and increase 12-13-13 stitches evenly spaced = 126-132-136 stitches. ROUNDS 10-13: Work 1 double crochet in each stitch. ROUND 14: Use a double strand in the same colour as the previous round and work 1 slip stitch around each stitch, making sure the slip stitches are not too tight. Cut and fasten the strands. The hat measures 21-22-23 cm. |
