Hi, I would like to know how much Drops Snow should be used for size XS if I decided to only use this yarn in needle size 10? Would 700g be enough?
14.12.2023 - 17:26DROPS Design answered:
Dear Corina, to get the correct finished measurements for your size as in the chart, you should have the correct tension; if you like to get with another tension you will have to recalculate the whole piece following your own tension; you can also find similar patterns with the correct tension, see here for example. Happy knitting!

Hei Astrid.

Morning! How many balls of yarn are required? Im using Eskimo.
04.12.2020 - 13:04DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Marcucci, DROPS Snow is the new name for DROPS Eskimo so that you will find matching amount of yarn for each size in grams, eg. 550 g DROPS Snow/Eskimo /50 g a ball = 11 balls DROPS Snow/Eskimo + 100 g /25 g the ball DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk = 4 balls in size XS. Happy knitting!

Hei Margaretha.

Knitted large jacket in DROPS Snow and DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Knitted with deep V-neck and pockets. Size XS–XXL.
DROPS 213-29 |
|||||||
---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. MEASURING TIP: All width measurements are done when piece lies flat without stretching it. All length measurements must be done by holding the piece up otherwise the jacket will be too long when worn. DECREASE TIP (applies to neckline): Decrease for V-neck inside 4 band stitches in moss stitch (A.1). All decreases are done from the right side! Decrease as follows before the 4 band stitches: Begin 2 stitches before A.1, knit 2 together, work 4 band stitches in A.1 as before (= 1 stitch decreased). Decrease as follows after the 4 band stitches: Work 4 band stitches in A.1 as before, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 1 stitch decreased). INCREASE TIP (applies to sleeves): Increase inside 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, alternately at the beginning and end of row as explained in pattern. All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Back piece, front pieces and sleeves are worked back and forth in parts needle, from bottom up. Piece is sewn together on shoulder, sleeves as sewn in and under arm and side seams are sewn in one down to vent in each side. Sew collar together mid back , and sew on to neck line at the back of neck. Then work two pockets to sew on front pieces. BACK PIECE: Cast on 35-37-41-43-47-51 stitches on needle size 12 mm with 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work A.1 back and forth for 4 rows (1st row = right side). Switch to needle size 15 mm. Then work in stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH in each side - read explanation above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm - read MEASURING TIP, cast off 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows for armholes = 29-31-33-35-37-39 stitches remain. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. When piece measures 71-74-77-80-83-86 cm, cast off the middle 5-5-7-7-7-9 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue as before and cast off 1 stitch for neck on next row from the neck = 11-12-12-13-14-14 stitches remain. When 1 row remains before piece measures 74-77-80-83-86-89 cm, knit 1 row from wrong side. Then cast off by knitting from the right side. Work the other shoulder the same way. Back piece measures approx. 74-77-80-83-86-89 cm from shoulder and down. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 21-22-24-25-27-29 stitches (including 4 band stitches towards mid front) on needle size 12 mm with 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work A.1 back and forth for 4 rows (1st row = right side). Switch to needle size 15 mm. Work next row as follows from right side: Work A.1 over the first 4 stitches (= band), work in stocking stitch until 1 stitch remains on row and finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch towards the side. Continue back and forth like this. When piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm, decrease for V-neck by decreasing 1 stitch after the 4 band stitches – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6th row 3-3-4-4-4-5 times in total. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm, cast off 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches for armholes at the beginning of first row from wrong side. After all decreases for V-neck and armholes, 15-16-16-17-18-18 stitches remain on needle. Then work with 4 band stitches in A.1, stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch towards the side. When 1 stitch remains before piece measures 74-77-80-83-86-89 cm, knit from wrong side over the first 11-12-12-13-14-14 stitches, then continue A.1 over the 4 band stitches. Turn piece, work A.1 over the 4 band stitches, and cast off the remaining 11-12-12-13-14-14 stitches by knitting from right side. Cut the yarn. Front piece measures approx. 74-77-80-83-86-89 cm from shoulder and down. Then work neck edge as explained below. NECK EDGE: = 4 stitches. Keep stitches on needle size 15 mm. Insert 1 marker on row. Continue A.1 back and forth until neck edge measures approx. 8 to 11 cm from marker - place neck edge along neck line mid back in the neck to control the length, neck edge should be lightly stretched. Cast off knitting from right side. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 21-22-24-25-27-29 stitches (including 4 band stitches towards mid front) on needle size 12 mm with 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work A.1 back and forth for 4 rows (1st row = right side). Switch to needle size 15 mm. Work next row as follows from right side: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch until 4 stitches remain on row, and continue A.1 over the last 4 stitches (= band). Continue back and forth like this. When piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm, decrease for V-neck by decreasing 1 stitch before the 4 band stitches – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6th row 3-3-4-4-4-5 times in total. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm, cast off 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches for armholes at the beginning of first row from right side. After all decreases for V-neck and armholes 15-16-16-17-18-18 stitches remain on needle. Continue with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in the side towards armhole, stocking stitch and 4 band stitches in A.1. When 1 row remains before piece measures 74-77-80-83-86-89 cm, work next row from wrong side: Continue A.1 over the 4 band stitches, and knit from wrong side over the remaining 11-12-12-13-14-14 stitches. Turn piece, cast off the first 11-12-12-13-14-14 stitches by knitting from right side, and work A.1 over the 4 band stitches. Cut the yarn. Front piece measures approx. 74-77-80-83-86-89 cm from shoulder and down. Then work neck edge the same way as on right front piece. SLEEVE: Cast on 17-17-18-19-19-20 stitches on needle size 10 mm with 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work A.1 back and forth with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side for 3 cm. Switch to needle size 15 mm, and work in stocking stitch back and forth with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. When piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm, increase 1 stitch at the beginning of row - read INCREASE TIP. Repeat increase alternately at the end of row and beginning of row every 5-4-3½-3½-2½-2½ cm 4-5-5-5-6-6 times in total in each side= 25-27-28-29-31-32 stitches. Continue to work until sleeve measures 45-45-42-42-40-38 cm. Insert 1 marker in each side on sleeve - markers mark where bottom of armhole begins. Then work with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side until entire sleeve entire measures 49-49-48-48-47-47 cm. Loosely cast off by knitting from right side. Work the other sleeve the same way. On the picture the sleeves have been rolled up slightly. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside cast-off edge. Sew in sleeves and sew bottom of armhole - markers inserted on sleeves should fit the sides of body. Sew under sleeve and side seams in one - sew in outer loops of edge stitch to get a flat seam but stop seam when approx. 25 to 30 cm remain at the bottom in each side on front/back (= vent). Sew neck edge together mid back with grafting/kitchener stitches, but make sure that seam is turned inwards. Sew collar to neckline in the back of neck. Sew in buttons on left band - top button is sewn approx. 1 to 2 cm under where V-neck begins, and sew next button approx. 12 to 14 cm under there. NOTE! To fasten the buttons tightly, button each button through a stitch on right band, i.e do not cast off stitches for buttonholes. POCKETS: Cast on 15-15-17-17-19-19 stitches on needle size 15 mm with 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work A.1. back and forth over all stitches until pocket measures approx. 23-23-23-25-25-25 cm. Work 2 ridges back and forth over all stitches. Cast off knitting from right side. Pocket measures approx. 26-26-26-28-28-28 cm vertically. Work the other pocket the same way. Sew one pocket on to each front piece, approx. 11-13-15-15-17-19 cm from bottom edge and approx. 5-5-6-7-7-8 cm in from mid front (try the jacket on and adjust placement of pockets). |
