The sleeve looks like a bell sleeve but I don’t see that allowed for in the pattern. Am I missing something?
20.02.2021 - 21:42DROPS Design answered:
Dear Shelley, the sleeve is started with a soft hazey yarn and 8 mm needles, and after the edge is contiued with a thicker yarn and much smaller needles. That is what gives the sleeves the trupmet effect. I hope that helps. Happy knitting!

Hello, Is it possible to substitute circular needles for the double-pointed needles in this pattern if the correct gauge is obtained? Thank you. Regards, Lisette
06.11.2018 - 02:26DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lisette, sure you can use the magic loop technique with a circular needle for the sleeves. Happy knitting!

Knitting tension: Remember needle size is only a guide. 23 stitches x 30 rows with needle size 3.5 mm and stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm Ridge/Garter stitch (back and forth on needle): 1 ridge = Knit 2 rows. Ridge/Garter stitch (in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. Decrease tip (for armholes): Decrease inside the 2 stitches stocking stitch. All decreases are worked from the right side! Decrease as follows after the 2 stitches stocking stitch: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, K1, pass slipped stitch over. Decrease as follows before the 2 stitches stocking stitch: K2 together. ------------------------------------------------------- Back piece: Cast on 94-101-113-122-136 stitches (incl. 1 edge stitch in each side) with needle size 3.5 mm and Silke-Tweed and work stocking stitch. When piece measures 8 cm increase 1 stitch in each side every 8-8-9-9-9 cm a total of 4 times = 102-109-121-130-144 stitches. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 39-40-41-42-43 cm, cast off 4-4-6-7-9 stitches in each side for armholes. Then decrease for armholes in each side every 2nd row - see Decrease tip: 1 stitch 6-8-10-13-17 times = 82-85-89-90-92 stitches. When piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm, cast off the middle 24-25-25-26-28 stitches for neck. Then decrease on each side of neck every 2nd row: 1 stitch 2 times = 27-28-30-30-30 stitches left on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 58-60-62-64-66 cm. Right front piece: Cast on 38-40-47-51-57 stitches (incl. 1 edge stitch in the side) with needle size 3.5 mm and Silke-Tweed. Read the whole of the next section before continuing. Increase towards mid front: Work 4-3-4-5-4 rows stocking stitch before increasing towards mid front every 4th row: 1 stitch 8-10-11-12-14 times and then every 2nd row: 1 stitch 20-18-17-16-14 times. Side increases: At the same time, when piece measures 8 cm increase in the side as for back piece. Armhole: At the same time, when piece measures 39-40-41-42-43 cm decrease for armhole in the side as for back piece. Neck: At the same time, after you have finished all the increases towards mid front, work 2 rows stocking stitch, (piece now measures approx. 25-26-27-28-29 cm) then decrease every 2nd row: 1 stitch 22-19-19-18-16 times, then every 4th row: 1 stitch 11-13-14-15-17 times. After all increases and decreases, there are 27-28-30-30-30 stitches left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 58-60-62-64-66 cm. Left front piece: Cast on and work as for right, but reversed. Sleeve: The sleeve is worked in the round to avoid a visible seam on the cuff. Cast on 54-57-59-62-65 stitches with double pointed needles size 8 mm and Vivaldi and purl 1 round. Continue with stocking stitch until piece measures 16 cm. Change to double pointed needle size 3.5 mm and Silke-Tweed and work 1 ridge. Continue with stocking stitch. When piece measures 18-20-22-20-24 cm increase 2 stitches mid under sleeve every 2.5-2-1.5-1.5-1 cm a total of 12-13-15-16-18 times = 78-83-89-94-101 stitches. When sleeve measures 48-48-47-46-45 cm, cast off 6 stitches mid under sleeve. Then work sleeve back and forth on needle. Decrease in each side every 2nd row: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 3-3-4-4-4 times and 1 stitch 5-6-6-8-10 times, then 2 stitches in each side until piece measures 55-56-56-57-57 cm, finally 3 stitches 1 time in each side. Cast off the remaining stitches, piece measures approx. 56-57-57-58-58 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams inside the 1 edge stitch. Sew in sleeves. Crochet edge: Work with hook size 7 mm and Snow around bottom of sleeves and along the whole opening (i.e. from mid back at bottom, up right front piece, back of neck, down left front piece and along bottom to mid back). Work as follows: 1 double crochet in first stitch, * 3 chain stitches, skip approx. 1.5 cm, 1 double crochet in next stitch *, repeat from *-* and finish with 3 chain stitches and 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round. Crochet flower: Work 4 chain stitches with hook size 3.5 mm and Vivaldi and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch. Round 1: * 1 double crochet around ring, 3 chain stitches *, repeat from *-* a total of 5 times and finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round. Round 2: Work as follows in each chain-space: * 1 double crochet, 2 treble crochets, 1 double crochet *, repeat from *-*. Round 3. Turn piece, * work 1 double crochet in double crochet from round 1 (work around the stitch from the previous round, tighten strand), 5 chain stitches *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 double crochet. Round 4: Work as follows in each chain-space: * 1 double crochet, 1 chain stitch, 2 treble crochets, 2 double treble crochets, 2 treble crochets, 1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet *, repeat from *-*. Cut strand and fasten flower to left sleeve in transition between Vivaldi and Silke-Tweed. Jacket is closed with a brooch. |
