I cannot find a yarn in Canada that gives me the tension swatch you recommend. 13 stitches by 26 rows is impossible for a 10cmx10cm swatch is impossible! Are you sure that's not a mistake? I have four orders to make these booties and really want to do them. Help!

Dear Melanie, we are pleased to inform you that you can get our yarn from our DROPS stores in Canada or shipping to Canada. Happy knitting!

Knitted slippers with cables and garter stitch in DROPS Snow. Size 35-42
DROPS 178-5 |

GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. GARTER STITCH (back and forth): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. Choose diagram for correct size. ---------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPERS: BOTTOM PART OF LEG: Cast on 36-38-40 stitches on double pointed needles size 6 mm with Snow. Work in GARTER ST in the round - see explanation above - until piece measures approx. 4 cm, finish after purling 1 round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION FOOT: Now keep the first 9-11-11 stitches on round on needle, slip the remaining 27-27-29 stitches on a stitch holder. Work in 1 ridge in GARTER STITCH back and forth - see explanation above, over the 9-11-11 stitches, AT THE SAME TIME on first row cast on 1 new stitch in each side (edge stitches) and increase 1 stitch in the middle (increase by making 1 yarn over, on next row work yarn over twisted to avoid holes) = 12-14-14 stitches. Then work pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, A.1 (= 10-12-12 stitches), finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work A.1 4-5-6 times in total vertically. Piece measures approx. 7-8½-10 cm. Then knit 1 row while decreasing 1 edge stitch in each side and decrease 1 stitch in the middle (decrease by knitting 2 stitches together) = 9-11-11 stitches. Then slip stitches from stitch holder back on needle and pick up 12-14-16 stitches on each side of middle part (inside 1 edge stitch) = 60-66-72 stitches on needle. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE! Insert 1 marker thread mid front of toe and 1 marker thread mid back on heel. Continue in the round in garter stitch. When piece measures 2 cm, knit 2 together on each side of every marker thread on every other round (= 4 stitches less per round) continue decrease until piece measures 5-5-6 cm – cast off. Sew together seam mid under foot in edge stitches to avoid a chunky seam. TOP PART OF LEG: Work the top part of leg back and forth. Pick up stitches from bottom part of leg (i.e. at cast-on edge), and work in opposite direction. Begin in one side of leg, begin from right side as follows: Cast on 3 stitches on double pointed needle size 6 mm with Snow (= button band), then pick up 36-36-39 stitches evenly along the entire opening, finish by casting on 3 stitches (= button band) = 42-42-45 stitches. Work next row as follows: 3 band stitches in garter stitch, * knit 3, 1 yarn over *, repeat from *-* until 3 stitches remain, finish with 3 band stitches in garter stitch = 54-54-58 stitches. Knit 1 row from right side (work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes), and knit 1 row from wrong side. Then work as follows: Work 3 band stitches in garter stitch, A.2 12-12-13 times in total in width, finish with 3 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue like this until the top part of leg measures approx. 12 cm - finish after last row in A.2. Work 2 ridges, AT THE SAME TIME on first row decrease 1 stitch over every cable = 42-42-45 stitches. Cast off. ASSEMBLY: Place bands over each other, place them so that front band is over band closest the heel. Fasten 4 decorative buttons through both layers. Work another slipper the same way, make sure that the leg opening is in the opposite side. |
