Diagram shows all rows in pattern seen from the right side. The whole pattern is worked in stocking stitch. RIB: * knit 1 / purl 2 *. Repeat from *-*. GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows knit. GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge in height = 2 rounds; Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. ------------------------------------------------------- Body: Numbers in ( ) = men's sizes. Cast on 264-276 (264-276-288-300) sts on smaller circular needles with coal gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 2 rows garter st, 5 cm rib, 2 rows garter st. When the work measures 58-62 (66-68-70-73) cm , bind off the center back 34-36 (36-36-38-38) sts for the neck. Then bind off 2 sts at each back neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures approx. 60-64 (68-70-72-75) cm . Sleeves: Cast on 54-54 (57-57-60-63) sts on smaller double pointed needles with coal gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 2 rows garter st, 5 cm rib, 2 rows garter st, increasing 6-6 (3-5-4-3) sts evenly distributed on the last row = 60-60 (60-62-64-66) sts. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern. After the rib, inc 1 st each side of marker 25-27 (27-28-27-29) times: Sizes S/M + M/L: every 4th row Sizes (S S/M + M/L + XL + XXL): alternately every 4th and 5th row = 110-114 (114-118-118-124) sts. When the work measures 45-45 (50-51-52-52) cm, put 4 sts each side of marker on a stitch holder and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Then put sts on a stitch holder for sleeve caps on each side every other row: 8-8 (8-9-9-9) sts 4 times. The work measures approx. 48-48 (53-54-55-55) cm . Put the sts from the stitch holder back on the needles and knit 2 cm reverse stockinette st for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body, bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the steek sts on each side. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, first seam = ½ stitch from the thread, 2nd seam = ½ stitch from the first seam. Cut for armhole. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 86-101 sts (divisible by 3 sts + 2 sts) around the neck on smaller needles with coal gray and knit 2 rows garter st back and forth on the needles. Then knit rib as follows: K 2 (edge sts knit in garter st throughout), * K 1, P 2 *, repeat from * - * until 3 sts remain on the needles, K 1, K 2 (edge sts knit in garter st throughout). When the neck measures approx. 7.5 cm , knit 2 rows garter st over all sts, bind off. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand. Knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needles. Knit the 2 edge sts on each side at the neck split in garter st. When the work measures 37-41-44-48 (50-52-55) cm , bind off at each neck edge (center front) every other row: 5-8-8-8 (9-9-9) sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 2 times (the shoulder pieces have different numbers of sts; left shoulder = 28-28-31-34 (36-39-42) sts, right shoulder = 27-27-30-33 (35-38-41) sts). When the work measures 39-43-46-51 (53-55-58) cm , bind off the center back 26-32-32-32 (34-34-34) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each back neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures approx. 41-45-48-53 (55-57-60) cm . Sleeves: Cast on 39-42-45-45 (48-48-51) sts on smaller double pointed needles with coal gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 2 rows garter st, 3-3-4-4 (4-5-5) cm rib, 2 rows garter st, increasing 5-2-3-3 (4-4-5) sts evenly distributed across the last row = 44-44-48-48 (52-52-56) sts. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern. After the rib, inc 1 st each side of marker 11-20-20-24 (25-27-25) times: Size 2 years: every 5th row Sizes 3/4 + 5/6 + 7/8 + 11/12 years: alternately every 3rd and 4th row Size 9/10 years: every 4th row Size 13/14 years: alternately every 4th and 5th row = 66-84-88-96 (102-106-106) sts. When the work measures 25-29-32-36 (40-42-46) cm , put 3 sts each side of marker on a stitch holder and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Then put sts on a stitch holder on each side every other row: 9-12-13-14 (15-16-16) sts 2 times. The work measures approx. 27-31-34-38 (42-44-48) cm . Put all the sts from the stitch holder back on the needles. Knit 2 cm reverse stockinette st for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body, bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the steek sts on each side. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, first seam = ½ stitch from the thread, 2nd seam = ½ stitch from the first seam. Cut up for armhole. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 74-92 sts (divisible by 3 sts + 2 sts) around the neck on smaller needles with coal gray and knit 2 rows garter st back and forth on the needles. Establish rib as follows: K 2 (edge sts knit in garter st throughout), * K 1, P 2 *, repeat from * - * until 3 sts remain on the needles, K 1, K 2 (edge sts knit in garter st throughout). When the neck measures approx. 4.5-4.5-5.5-5.5 (6.5-6.5-7.5) cm , knit 2 rows garter st, bind off.
