Hi, I was wondering about the instructions for the heels, it says "Knit the first 13-14-15 stitches and keep them on the needle for the heel, place the next 28-30-32 stitches on 1 thread, keep the last 13-14-15 stitches on the needle for the heel = 26-28-30 heel-stitches." But wouldn't that make the left side have 1 extra row of stitches than the right side? Or I’m misunderstanding. Thank you!

Dear Roslyn, correct but this is not visible as 1 row will be only approx. 0,29 cm in height. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. KNITTING TIP: To avoid the knitting tension losing its elasticity when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if the piece becomes tight. HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 7-7-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-7-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-6-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-6-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 14-16-16 stitches left. DECREASE TIP-2: Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the other marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCK – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. LEG: Cast on 64-72-76 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and colour light beige DROPS Nord. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round (mid-back). Work rib as follows: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2, knit 1. Continue this rib for 3 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 8-8-12 stitches evenly spaced = 56-64-64 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Read KNITTING TIP and work A.1, 7-8-8 times on the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.1 is finished, continue with colour light beige and stocking stitch until the leg measures 16-17-18 cm from the cast-on edge – AT THE SAME TIME, on the 2nd round with light beige after the last pattern border, decrease 2-6-2 stitches evenly spaced = 54-58-62 stitches. Now work the heel and foot with colour light beige. HEEL AND FOOT: Knit the first 13-14-15 stitches and keep them on the needle for the heel, place the next 28-30-32 stitches on 1 thread, keep the last 13-14-15 stitches on the needle for the heel = 26-28-30 heel-stitches. Work stocking stitch back and forth over the heel stitches for 6-6-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row – the foot is measured from here. Work HEEL DECREASES – read description above. After the heel decreases, work as follows. Knit the 14-16-16 heel-stitches, knit up 16-16-17 stitches along one side of the heel, knit the 28-30-32 stitches on top of foot and knit up 16-16-17 stitches along the other side of the heel = 74-78-82 stitches. Work to mid-heel – the round now starts here. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 28-30-32 stitches on top of the foot. Work stocking stitch in the round and decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the 2 last stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker. Decrease like this every round a total of 4 times, then every 2nd round 10 times = 46-50-54 stitches. Continue working until the foot measures 18-19-20 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. There is 4-5-6 cm left to finished length, try the sock on and work to desired length. TOE: Insert 1 marker in each side with 23-25-27 stitches both on top and under the foot. Continue with stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round decrease for the toe on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 4-7-9 times, then every round 6-3-2 times = 6-10-10 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-26 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. |
