Hi, I am at the diagonal shoulder on the back piece and am confused. There are 144 st on the needles. Can you clarify the following: 1. "Bind off 19 st 1 time" - do you mean to reduce 19 st on only 1 side, or once on each side? 2. "Bind off 11 st 4 times in total" - twice on each side, right? 3. 144 - 19 - (4x11) - 18 [neck] = 63 *total* st left, not 60 st on each side per the next step (If #1 is BO 19 on *both* sides, there are just 44 st total.) Thanks for any help!!!
11.04.2022 - 01:11DROPS Design answered:
Dear Pamela, you decrease at the start of every row, 1 from the right side and 1 from the wrong side. So you decrease 19 stitches once in each side. Then, you decrease 11 stitches 4 times at the start of every row, the same way as with the 19 stitches; so 11x8 (4 rows on the right side and 4 on the wrong side) = 88. 144-19-19-88-18 = 0. The 60 stitches for the right front come from the division made while working the yoke, before you started working on the back piece, and are in wait in a stitch holder. Happy knitting!

On the top of the schematic picture what does the measurements 9-9-11-11-12-12 refer to? also what does the 36-38-40-42-44-47 refer to?
25.02.2022 - 05:54DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs McMillan, the 9-9-11-11-12-12 cm refer to the width of the front band stitches (= 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts worked in garter stitch on each side); and the 36-38-40-42-44-47 cm are for half of the winspann of the jacket, ie from mid neck on back piece to the wrist on sleeve. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

Very confused about instructions for back piece. It says "cast off for neck when piece measures 60 cm (third size)... Cast off the middle 20 stitches. When all stitches have been cast off, piece measures 62 cm." That makes no sense- if you cast off when the piece measures 60 cm, how can it then measure 62 cm? Help!
13.03.2016 - 22:01DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Maydon, when piece measures 58 cm (3rd size), you have to cast of for diagonal shoulder at beg of every row (= on each side): 18 sts 1 time, 12 sts 4 times and AT THE SAME TIME cast off for neck when piece measures 60 cm cast off the middle 20 sts for neck (then continue each shoulder separately while continuing the cast off for diagonal shoulders at beg of row towards sleeve/shoulder). When you will have cast off all sts for diagonal shoulders, piece measures 62 cm. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. MEASURING TIP: Measure when piece is held up on needle horizontally, it is important not to stretch the piece when measuring. PATTERN: Row 1 (= WS): K all sts. Row 2 (= RS): K all sts. Row 3 (from WS): * K 2 tog, 1 YO *, repeat from *-*. Row 4 (= RS): K all sts. Row 5 (= WS): K all sts. Work 7-7-7-8-8-8 cm in stocking st. Adjust so that next row is from WS. Repeat this pattern. DECREASE TIP: Dec 1 st before 1st and 3rd marker as follows: K 2 tog. Dec 1 st after 2nd and 4th marker as follows: Slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso. BUTTONHOLES: Dec for buttonholes on right band. 2 buttonholes = K tog third and fourth st from edge and make 1 YO, and K tog third and fourth last band st and make 1 YO. Dec for buttonholes when piece measures: SIZE S: 28 cm SIZE M: 29 cm SIZE L: 30 cm SIZE XL: 30 cm SIZE XXL: 31 cm SIZE XXXL: 32 cm ---------------------------------------------------------- BODY: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 204-220-240-256-284-308 sts (incl 18-18-20-20-22-22 band sts in each side) on circular needle size 4 mm with Lima. Work 7 ridges in GARTER ST - see explanation above. Switch to circular needle size 5 mm. Continue in stocking st but work 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts in each side in garter st (= bands). When piece measures 8 cm - read MEASURING TIP above, insert 4 markers in the piece from RS as follows: Work 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts in garter st (= band sts), 41-45-49-53-59-65 sts in stocking st, insert 1st marker, 2 sts in stocking st, insert 2nd marker, work 82-90-98-106-118-130 sts in stocking st, insert 3rd marker, 2 sts in stocking st, insert 4th marker, 41-45-49-53-59-65 sts in stocking st, finish with 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts in garter st (= band sts). On next row from RS, dec 1 st at every marker – Read DECREASE TIP (= 4 sts dec). Repeat dec every 5-5-6-6-4-4 cm 3-3-3-3-5-5 more times (4-4-4-4-6-6 times in total) = 188-204-224-240-260-284 sts remain on needle. Work in stocking st until piece measures 28-29-30-30-31-32 cm - remember MEASURING TIP. Work PATTERN – see explanation above but work 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts in each side in garter st on all rows (= bands) AT THE SAME TIME work BUTTONHOLES - see explanation above. When piece measures 31-32-33-33-34-35 cm, slip the first 56-60-66-70-76-82 sts and the last 56-60-66-70-76-82 sts on stitch holders for front piece = 76-84-92-100-108-120 sts remain on needle for back piece. BACK PIECE: = 76-84-92-100-108-120 sts. Continue with pattern, AT THE SAME TIME cast on 30 sts for sleeves at the end of the next two rows = 136-144-152-160-168-180 sts. Continue with pattern, but work the outermost 8 sts in each side in garter st AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm, cast off for diagonal shoulder from edge of sleeve at beg of every row as follows: Cast off 19-19-18-18-17-19 sts 1 time, then cast off 10-11-12-13-14-15 sts 4 times in total AT THE SAME TIME cast off for neck when piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm as follows: Cast off the middle 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts for neck. When all sts have been cast off, piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: = 56-60-66-70-76-82 sts. Work band and pattern as before and at the end of next row from RS cast on 30 new sts for sleeve = 86-90-96-100-106-112 sts. Then work pattern but work 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts towards mid front and the 8 outermost sts on sleeve in garter st AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 33-34-35-36-37-38 cm, inc 1 st inside 1 edge st in band, repeat inc every 6th row 3 more times (= 4 times in total) = 90-94-100-104-110-116 sts (= 22-22-24-24-26-26 band sts in garter st on all rows). When piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm, cast off for diagonal shoulder on every row from edge of sleeve as follows (i.e. at beg of every row from WS): Cast off 19-19-18-18-17-19 sts 1 time, then cast off 10-11-12-13-14-15 sts 4 times in total = 31-31-34-34-37-37 sts remain on needle for collar. Work in garter st over these sts with short rows, beg from RS: * 2 rows back and forth over the first 23-23-26-26-29-29 sts, 2 rows over all sts *, repeat from *-* until piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm on the shortest. Cast off. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Work as right but reversed. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder/overarm seams and underarm seams. Sew the collar tog mid back and sew it to the neckline at the back. Sew on buttons. |
