Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows on larger needle in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm CARDIGAN Finished measurements: 50-56-64 (70-76-84) cm Pattern: See chart. The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. Rib: *Knit 1, purl 1*. Repeat from * - *. Body: Knit the cardigan in the round after the rib and cut steeks for armholes and at the center front. Cast on 122-138-154 (170-186-202) sts on smaller circular needles with coral, knit 3 cm rib. Change to larger circular needles; join and inc 3 sts at the center front (these 3 sts + 2 edge sts (5 sts) are for the steeks and should not be knit into the pattern); place a marker at one side of the 5 steek sts. Knit Pattern M.1a and M.1b. When the work measures 20-21-24 (24-24-26) cm , knit the next row as follows: 5 steek sts, 27-31-35 (39-43-47) sts for the front, bind off 6 sts for armhole, 54-62-70 (78-86-94) sts for the back, bind off 6 sts for armhole, 27-31-35 (39-43-47) sts for the front. On the next row inc 5 sts over the bound-off armhole sts on each side (these sts are for the steeks and should not be knit into the pattern). Shape armholes: dec 1 st on each side of the steek sts on each side every row 3 times, then every other row 1-2-1 (1-2-3) times. Front = 46-52-62 (70-76-82) sts + 5 steek sts, back = 46-52-62 (70-76-82) sts. At the same time, when the work measures 26-27-31 (31-34-37) cm , bind off the center front 10-12-14 (18-22-24) sts + the 5 steek sts for the neck and knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, dec 1 st 2 times. When the work measures 28-30-34 (35-38-41) cm , bind off the center back 18-20-22 (26-30-32) sts for the neck. Bind off at each back neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time. Bind off all sts when the piece measures 30-32-36 (37-40-43) cm . Sleeves: Cast on 40-44-46 (48-48-52) sts on smaller double pointed needles with coral; join and place a marker at the join. Knit rib for 3 cm . Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern M.1a and M.1b (make sure you get a repeat directly centered on the sleeve). After the rib, inc 1 st each side of marker 4-4-6 (7-14-15) times: Sizes 0/3 + 12/18 mos.: every 8th row Size 6/9 mos.: every 11th row Size 2 years: alternately every 7th and every 8th row Size 3/4 years: alternately every 4th and 5th row Size 5/6 years: every 5th row = 48-52-58 (62-76-82) sts. When the work measures 15-19-20 (22-26-29) cm , put 3 sts on a stitch holder each side of marker and knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needles. Then put sts on a stitch holder for sleeve caps on each side every other row: 4 sts 0-0-0 (0-6-0) times, 3 sts 1-1-6 (6-0-8) times, 2 sts 4-3-0 (0-0-0) times, 3 sts 1-2-0 (0-0-0) times. The sleeve measures approx. 19-23-24 (26-30-34) cm . Put all the sts for sleeve caps back on the same needles and knit 2 cm reverse stockinette st for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body, bind off all sts. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the increased sts on each side and at the center front. Sew 2 machine seams, 1st seam = 1/2 st from marker thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 st from the 1st seam. Cut up for armholes and at the center front. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 66-68-78 (78-86-92) sts along the left front on smaller needles with coral and knit rib for 2.5 cm , purl 1 row (for the folding edge), knit 2.5 cm stockinette st, bind off. Repeat along right front, but after 1 cm make 5-5-6 (6-7-7) buttonholes evenly distributed on the row - knit the uppermost buttonhole as high up toward the neck as possible (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound off sts on the next row). Remember to make corresponding buttonholes on the facing. Pick up approx. 70-110 sts around the neck and over the placket on smaller needles with coral and knit 2-2.5 cm rib back and forth on the needles, bind off. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of stockinette st on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater wrong side out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand. Fold the edges over double against the wrong side and sew. Sew on buttons. ________________________________________ TROUSERS Sizes: 0/3 - 6/9 - 12/18 months (2 - 3/4 - 5/6 years) Entire length = 38-42-47 (52-58-64) cm Leg length = 18-22-25 (27-35-41) cm Materials: Garnstudio SAFRAN (100% Egyptian cotton) 50 g./160 m 100-100-150 (150-200-200) g. Knit rib for 10 cm (the rib will be folded over double for a cuff and is therefore measured as 5 cm ). Change to larger double pointed needles, knit Pattern 2 and then stockinette st with coral to finished dimensions. At the same time, after Pattern 2, inc 1 st on each side of marker 4-3-3 (3-3-3) times every 2nd-3rd-4th (5th-7th-9th) cm = 76-82-82 (90-90-90) sts. When the work measures 17-21-24 (26-34-40) cm , divide at the marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Inc 1 st on each side for seam = 78-84-84 (92-92-92) sts. When the work measures 18-22-25 (27-35-41) cm , bind off 4-6-3 (4-4-4) sts on each side = 70-72-78 (84-84-84) sts. Put the work aside. Trouser: Put the right and left leg together on the same circular needles with a marker between each leg = 140-144-156 (168-168-168) sts. Knit 3 rows and then inc 1 st at the center back on each side of the marker (make increases 2 sts away from marker on each side) 6 times every other row, then 2 times every 4th row. At the same time, dec 1 st at the center front on each side of the marker (make the decreases 1 st away from the marker on each side) 6 times every other row, then 2 times every 4th row: 140-144-156 (168-168-168) sts. When the work measures 35-39-45 (49-55-61) cm dec 20-24-30 (28-28-28) sts evenly distributed on the row = 120-120-126 (140-140-140) sts. Change to smaller circular needles and knit border but after 1 cm make 1 buttonhole (if suspenders are being knit) on each side of the center front marker 5-5-6 (6-7-7) cm from the marker (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound off sts on the next row) -- remember to make corresponding buttonholes on the facing. Bind off all sts. The work measures approx. 38-42-47 (52-58-64) cm . Assembly: Sew together the split on the inside of each leg up to the bound off sts and then sew together the opening between the legs from the center front to the center of the back. Fold the edge over double and sew. Suspenders: (Can be omitted from the 3 largest sizes if not desired.) Cast on 11-11-11 (13-15-15) sts on smaller needle and knit rib for approx. 35-50 cm . Bind off. Make 2. Sew the suspenders onto the last row on the edge at the center of the back with approx. 5-8 cm between. Sew a button onto each suspender. |
