I love this pattern but cannot for the life of me figure out at what point I am to start inserting the the bobble pattern on the right and left front. There are 21 stitches on 20 rows that are repeated that give the right and left front the beautiful pattern. After knitting the hem where do I start the pattern for the front?

Dear Mrs Davis, after the hem, you work in pattern: *3 sts in moss st, M.1 (= 21 sts), 52-58-62 sts moss st, M.1, 3 sts in moss st*, repeat from *-* onen more time - at the same time, increase 17-29-32 sts evenly - read more how to increase evenly here. Happy knitting!

I am trying to make this sweater for my daughter. WHAT does M.1 mean? Cannot find it in the dictionary

The M.1 is the name of the chart printed below the text next to the measure chart. The chart shows all the rows in the pattern seen from the RS side.

Knitting Tension: 17 sts x 28 rows on needle size 5 mm in moss st = 10 x 10 cm Moss st: first row: K1, P1. Second row P over K, K over P. Repeat second row. Bobble: Knitted from RS. Inc to 5 sts in 1 st, P 1 row on these 5 sts. On next row K tog 5 sts to 1 st. Hem: *3 moss sts, 2 stocking sts*, repeat from *-*. Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side. Back and front piece: Knitted back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 183-183-188 sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm and work 4 cm Hem. Change to needle size 5 mm, inc 17-29-32 sts evenly on first row = 200-212-220 sts, and work pattern as follows: *3 moss sts, M.1, 52-58-62 moss sts, M.1, 3 moss sts*, repeat from *-*. Continue in pattern like this. Remember the knitting tension. When piece measures 48-50-53 cm work next row as follows: 48-51-53 sts = front piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 96-102-106 sts = back piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 48-51-53 sts = front piece, and now complete each piece separately. Front piece: = 48-51-53 sts. Dec to shape the armhole on every other row: 2 sts 1-1-2 times, 1 st 2-3-3 times = 44-46-46 sts. When piece measures 69-72-75 cm dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 6-7-7 sts 1 time, 2 sts twice, 1 st 3 times. Cast off remaining sts when piece measures 74-77-80 cm. Back piece: = 96-102-106 sts. Dec to shape the armhole as described for front piece = 88-92-92 sts. When piece measures 75-75-78 cm cast off the middle 24-26-26 sts for neck and dec 1 st on neckline on next row. Cast off remaining sts when piece measures 74-77-80 cm. Sleeves: Cast on 35-40-40 sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work 4 cm Hem. Change to needle size 5 mm, inc 10-5-5 sts evenly on first round = 45-45-45 sts and continue in pattern as follows: 12-12-12 moss sts, M.1, 12-12-12 moss sts. At the same time after Hem inc 2 sts mid under arm 22-23-23 times on every 4th and 5th round alternately = 89-91-91 sts (work inc sts in moss st). When piece measures 44-44-45 cm cast off 6 sts mid under arm and complete sleeve back and forth on needle. Dec each side to shape the sleeve cap on every other row: 5 sts 7 times. Cast off, sleeve measures approx 50-50-51 cm. Assembly: Join shoulders. Pick up approx 110 sts (divisible by 5) along left front piece on needle size 3.5 mm and work 3.5 cm Hem, cast off. Repeat along right front piece, but after 1 cm make 8-8-9 buttonholes evenly distributed on row. 1 buttonhole = cast off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts on next row. Pick up approx 92-96 sts round the neck on needle size 3.5 mm (do not pick up on front bands) and work moss st, at the same time inc 1 st on each shoulder on every 3rd row (incorporate inc sts in moss st pattern as you go along). When collar measures 8 cm cast off. Set in sleeves and sew on buttons. Cast on 8-8 sts on needle size 5 mm and distribute sts on needles. Now continue and inc as follows (incorporate inc sts in moss st pattern as you go along): Round 1: K Round 2: inc 1 st in each st (P inc sts) = 16 sts Round 3 and all odd rounds: moss st Round 4: inc 1 st in every other st = 24 sts Round 6: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 3rd st* = 32 sts Round 8: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 4th st* = 40 sts Round 10: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 5th st*, repeat from *-* = 48 sts Round 12: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 6th st*, repeat from *-* = 56 sts Round 14: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 7th st*, repeat from *-* = 64 sts Round 16: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 8th st*, repeat from *-* = 72 sts Round 18: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 9th st*, repeat from *-* = 80 sts Round 20: K1, inc 1 st in next st, *inc 1 st in every 10th st*, repeat from *-* = 88 sts Continue inc like this until piece measures 12 cm from the centre = diameter 24 cm.
