I am making this hat for my granddaughter, whose head mesures 18.25 in, I calculated based on the adult sizes and should cast on 96 stitches. How many should I decrease after I finish the k2p2 rib section? Thank you,

Dear Marianne, we don't make custom patterns. You will need to calculate the pattern according to the cast on stitches in this pattern and the your cast on stitches, by using a rule-of-three. Happy knitting!

Hi! I’m doing size medium of the hat! I finished the ribbing part of the pattern and I’m just confused on how to evenly space the decreases? I did 116 decided by 20 and I got 5.8…. How do you suggest I evenly space it-? Also, looking at the pattern, it says instructions on the decrease tip. So what exactly do I do for the decreases? Knit 2 together? Or ssk?
17.11.2025 - 22:10DROPS Design answered:
Hi Sarah, If you get a number like 5.8 when you have divided the number of stitches by the number of decreases, you decrease every after 6th stitch x 4, then after the 5th stitch, after every 6th stitch x 4, after the 5th stitch etc.. To work these decreases it is neatest to knit 2 together. The decrease tip is for decreasing either side of the markers later on. Regards, Drops Team.

Please can you explain what decrease you must make after the ribbing? It says 'Knit 1 round and decrease 19-20-18 stitches evenly spaced = 93-96-102 stitches.' how do you do that, please?
26.06.2025 - 00:18DROPS Design answered:
Hi Sylvie, You divide the number of stitches on the round with the number of decreases (e.g., 112/19 in size S = 5.9). To decrease knit 2 together after approx. every 6th stitch on the round. Regards, Drops Team.

Buon lavoro!

What does it mean “ Decrease every 2nd round”? I decrease 6 stitches in first row, in the second row, I dont decrease, then I decrease 6 stiches again. But it looks a bit weird, maybe I should do it in every row?
08.02.2025 - 14:14DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mina, yes, you are doing the right thing - dec on one row, knit on the other row (without dec). Just make sure you always decrease in the same places to get a nice line. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these stitches), slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. Repeat at each marker-thread = 6 stitches decreased on the round. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round on circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary. HAT: Cast on 112-116-120 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm, 1 strand DROPS Lima and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Purl 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 12 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 19-20-18 stitches evenly spaced = 93-96-102 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Work stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 22-23-23 cm, insert 3 marker-threads with 31-32-34 stitches between each one. Decrease every 2nd round - read DECREASE TIP 11-11-12 times = 27-30-30 stitches, then every round 1 time = 21-24-24 stitches. Knit 1-0-0, then knit 2 and 2 stitches together on the whole round = 11-12-12 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well Fold the bottom edge up to the right side (approx. 8 cm of 12 cm rib is folded). The hat measures approx. 23-24-25 cm when folded up. |
