“On the next round knit all stitches twisted together 2 and 2 = 18-21-20 stitches What does it mean “2 and 2”. I have never seen this expression in any written patterns though I’ve read hundreds of patterns before… I understand knit together through back loop for all stitches (“knit all stitches twisted together”), is this correct? Then what is this “2 and 2” right after?

Hi Ellie, This means K2 twisted together (through the back loop as you say), then K2 twisted together again and repeat until you reach the end of the round. Happy knitting!

To knit this hat with DROPS MERINO EXTRA FINE and DROPS KID-SILK, does the use of the two different yarns give the hat a nicer color effect ? Are there also other benefits of using both yarns ? Please explain and Thank you.
04.11.2024 - 16:10DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anne, using both yarns together gives a different texture as when using each yarn individually giving to the piece all properties to both yarns; about colors you can then just play with colours to change the finished colour, your DROPS store can help you choosing the best matching colours if you need help. Happy knitting!

Witam serdecznie!

Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. DECREASE TIP: Decrease after each marker: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles as you decrease. HAT: Cast on 120-124-128 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Purl 1 round, then work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 10 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 12-10-8 stitches evenly spaced = 108-114-120 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Work A.1 18-19-20 times in width. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work pattern until the hat measures 25-26-27 cm from the cast-on edge – finish after 1 stocking stitch round after a cable round. Insert 9-9-10 markers as follows: SIZES S/M and L/XL: Count 2 stitches, * insert 1 marker before the next stitch, count 12 stitches *, repeat from *-* 7-8 more times, insert 1 marker before the next stitch (10 stitches left on the round). SIZE M/L: Count 2 stitches, * insert 1 marker before the next stitch, count 12 stitches, insert 1 marker before the next stitch, count 12 stitches, insert 1 marker before the next stitch, count 14 stitches *, repeat from *-* 2 more times (on the last repeat there are 12 stitches left on the round). ALL SIZES: On the next round decrease 1 stitch after each marker – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 6 times, then every round 2 times = 36-42-40 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches twisted together 2 and 2 = 18-21-20 stitches. On the next round knit 0-1-0, then knit all stitches twisted together 2 and 2 = 9-11-10 stitches. Cut the strands, pull them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 31-32-33 cm. Fold up the bottom 6 cm. |
