In the pattern after you pick up stitches for the sleeves it says to start knitting from the marker which is in the middle of the picked up stitches. How can you start there when your yarn is at the end of the picked up stitches?
17.03.2022 - 00:02DROPS Design answered:
Hi Diana, You can begin your round (before knitting up stitches under the sleeve, in the middle of these stitches or you can work round the sleeve before starting the next round at the marker. Happy knitting!

In the diagram A1, do you knit one, increase one, knit one, increase one, and knit two, and then knit six stitches, or do you just ignore the top row? Thanks
23.08.2021 - 19:17DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anonymus, A.1 pattern starts out as a 4 stitch repeat, it has 2 yo in the 1st row, so in the SECOND row, it is 6 stitches. Our lesson on how to read knitting diagrams HERE might help you making sense of diagrams. Happy Stitching!

What is a twisted knit stitch? Is it knitting into the back of the stitch?
09.03.2021 - 23:22DROPS Design answered:
Hi Jane, Yes that is correct, to twist the stitch you work in the back of the stitch. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4 (diagrams A.3 to A.4 apply to sizes XL, XXL and XXXL). INCREASE/DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase/decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 72 stitches), and divide by the number of increases/decreases to be made (e.g. 4) = 18. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after each 18th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. When decreasing, knit together each 17th and 18th stitch. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down from mid back. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles, top down. NECK: Cast on 72-75-81-84-87-93 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and Alpaca Bouclé. Knit 1 round. Work rib (knit 1 twisted, purl 2) for 3 cm. When the rib is finished, knit 1 round where you increase 4-5-7-8-13-15 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE/DECREASE TIP = 76-80-88-92-100-108 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (= mid-back), the yoke is measured from this marker! YOKE: Work stocking stitch in the round. When the piece measures 3 cm from the marker in all sizes, work pattern according to the diagrams and increase as follows: INCREASE 1: Work A.1 (= 4 stitches) a total of 19-20-22-23-25-27 times on the round. When A.1 has been completed there are 114-120-132-138-150-162 stitches on the round. Knit 1 round where you adjust the number of stitches evenly to 115-120-135-140-150-165 stitches (i.e. in sizes S, L, XL, XXXL increase 1-3-2-3 stitches and in sizes M and XXL the number of stitches remains the same). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue with stocking stitch. When the piece measures 7-8-9-9-10-10 cm increase as follows: INCREASE 2: Work A.2 (= 5 stitches) a total of 23-24-27-28-30-33 times on the round. When A.2 has been completed there are 161-168-189-196-210-231 stitches. Knit 1 round where you adjust the number of stitches to 160-170-190-198-210-234 stitches (i.e. in size S decrease 1 stitch, in sizes M, L, XL and XXXL increase 2-1-2-3 stitches and in size XXL the number of stitches remains the same). Continue with stocking stitch. When the piece measures 11-13-15-16-16-18 cm, continue in the different sizes as follows: SIZES S, M and L: Work pattern and increase as follows: INCREASE 3: Work A.2 (= 5 stitches) a total of 32-34-38 times on the round. When A.2 has been completed there are 224-238-266 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the piece measures 20-22-24 cm. Then go to ALL SIZES. SIZES XL, XXL and XXXL: Work pattern and increase as follows: INCREASE 3: Work A.3 (= 6 stitches) a total of 33-35-39 times on the round. When A.3 has been completed there are 264-280-312 stitches. Knit 1 round where you adjust the number of stitches evenly to 266-280-314 stitches (i.e. in sizes XL and XXXL increase 2-2 stitches and in size XXL the number of stitches remains the same). Continue with stocking stitch. When the piece measures 21-21-24 cm, work as follows: INCREASE 4: Work * 22-13-21 stitches in stocking stitch, work A,4 over the next 7 stitches *, work from *-* 9-14-11 times, finish with 5-0-6 stitches in stocking stitch. When A.4 has been completed there are 284-308-336 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the piece measures 26-28-30 cm. Go to ALL SIZES. ALL SIZES: = 224-238-266-284-308-336 stitches. Now divide the yoke for body and sleeves on the next round as follows: Work the first 32-34-38-41-45-49 stitches (= half back piece), place the next 48-50-57-59-64-70 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-10-10-10-12 stitches (= in side under the sleeve), work the next 64-69-76-83-90-98 stitches (= front piece), place the next 48-50-57-59-64-70 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-10-10-10-12 stitches (= in side under the sleeve), work the last 32-35-38-42-45-49 stitches (= half back piece). Body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE. BODY: = 144-158-172-186-200-220 stitches. Continue in the round with stocking stitch. When the piece measures 23 cm from the division, knit 1 round where you increase 12-13-17-18-19-20 stitches evenly spaced = 156-171-189-204-219-240 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and work rib (= knit 1 twisted / purl 2) for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP. The jumper measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 48-50-57-59-64-70 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 5.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-10-10-10-10-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 56-60-67-69-74-82 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the 8-10-10-10-10-12 stitches under the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing under the sleeve. Start the round at the marker thread and work stocking stitch in the round. When the piece measures 3 cm from the division in all sizes, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 5½-5-2-2-1½-1 cm a total of 4-4-7-7-8-10 times = 48-52-53-55-58-62 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the sleeve measures 25-24-22-20-19-17 cm (shorter sleeves in the larger sizes due to longer yoke). Knit 1 round where you decrease 0-1-2-1-1-2 stitches evenly spaced = 48-51-51-54-57-60 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm and work rib (= knit 1 twisted, purl 2) for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP. The sleeve measures approx. 28-27-25-23-22-20 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
