------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1 (from right side): INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS RIGHT BEFORE MARKER: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT AFTER MARKER: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2 (for sides of body): Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread. Work until there is 1 stitch left before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over (2 increased stitches). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from mid-back. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. NECK: Cast on 98-102-106-106-110-114-118 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm, 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Knit 3 rounds, then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 2-2-2-2-2½-2½-2½ cm. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (= mid-back). YOKE: Insert 4 markers which are used when increasing for the saddle shoulders, sleeves and yoke. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and work the next round as follows: Knit the first 15-16-17-17-18-19-20 stitches (= half the back piece), insert marker-1 here. Knit the next 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 here. Knit the next 30-32-34-34-36-38-40 stitches (= front piece), insert marker-3 here. Knit the next 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 here. Knit the last 15-16-17-17-18-19-20 stitches (= half the back piece). INCREASE FOR SADDLE SHOULDERS: Continue stocking stitch in the round and increase for the shoulders – read INCREASE TIP-1. You only increase on the front and back pieces, the stitch count on the sleeves remains the same. Increase 4 stitches every round as follows: ROUND 1: * Knit to the first/next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, knit 19 stitches, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left *, work from *-* 1 more time, knit to end of round (= 4 increased stitches). Work this round a total of 18-20-20-20-20-20-20 times = 170-182-186-186-190-194-198 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. There are 19 stitches on each sleeve and 66-72-74-74-76-78-80 stitches on the front and back pieces. INCREASE FOR SLEEVES: Now increase only on the sleeves. The stitch count on the front and back pieces remains the same. Work stocking stitch, increasing 4 stitches every 2nd round as follows - remember INCREASE TIP-1: ROUND 1: * Knit to the first/next marker, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, *, work from *-* 1 more time, knit to end of round (= 4 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 8-12-13-10-8-6-3 times (16-24-26-20-16-12-6 rounds worked) = 202-230-238-226-222-218-210 stitches. There are 35-43-45-39-35-31-25 stitches on each sleeve and 66-72-74-74-76-78-80 stitches on the front and back pieces. INCREASE FOR YOKE: You now increase on both the front and back pieces and the sleeves. Work stocking stitch, increasing 8 stitches every 2nd round, i.e., before and after all the markers - remember INCREASE TIP-1: ROUND 1: * Knit until there is 1 stitch left before the first marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left *, work from *-* 1 more time, work to end of round (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 11-10-12-15-19-22-27 times (22-20-24-30-38-44-54 rounds worked) = 290-310-334-346-374-394-426 stitches. There are 57-63-69-69-73-75-79 stitches on each sleeve and 88-92-98-104-114-122-134 stitches on the front and back pieces. The piece measures approx. 20-22-24-24-26-27-28 cm from outermost on shoulder and down (= 5 cm saddle-shoulder depth and 15-17-19-19-21-22-23 cm sleeve-increases). Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit the first 44-46-49-52-57-61-67 stitches (= half the back piece), place the next 57-63-69-69-73-75-79 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-10-10-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 88-92-98-104-114-122-134 (= front piece), place the next 57-63-69-69-73-75-79 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-10-10-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 44-46-49-52-57-61-67 stitches (= half the back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 184-196-212-228-248-268-292 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 4-6-8-10-10-12-12 stitches cast on under each sleeve and allow the markers to follow your work onwards. They are used when increasing each side of the body. Continue stocking stitch in the round. When the piece measures 10 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side of each marker – read INCREASE TIP-2 (4 stitches increased). Repeat this increase when the piece measures 15 cm = 192-204-220-236-256-276-300 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 45-47-49-51-53-55-57 cm from the marker mid-back. Knit 1 round and increase 0-0-2-4-2-0-0 stitches evenly spaced = 192-204-222-240-258-276-300 stitches. Work A.1 in the round. When A.1 is finished there are 320-340-370-400-430-460-500 stitches. Cast off with knit. The jumper measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the marker mid-back. SLEEVES: Place the 57-63-69-69-73-75-79 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle or on double pointed needles size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-8-10-10-12-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 61-69-77-79-83-87-91 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round for 9-6-5-6-4-4-3 cm. Knit 1 round and adjust the stitch count to 60-66-78-78-84-84-90 stitches. Work A.1 in the round. When A.1 is finished there are 100-110-130-130-140-140-150 stitches. Cast off with knit. The sleeve measures approx. 14-11-10-11-9-9-8 cm from the division. |
