To Laura, I just received the wool and I noticed that the Brushed Alpaca Silk feels a bit thinner than the Alpaca bouclé, so I guess the gauge will not be the same with 2 strands of Alpaca Silk. I am just a beginner in knitting though, so I hope someone from Drops wille give you a more definite answer.

Dear Judith, you can substitute 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk with 2 strands Kid-Silk but of course, as yarns are different, result will be different, but tension should be then the same. Note that this jumper is worked with 2 strands together: 1 strand Alpaca Bouclé + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk, remember to check your tension, you should have 12 sts and 15 rows stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm, with needle size 7 mm or the size required to get these measurements. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On the next round work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. I-CORD CAST OFF: When the last round is worked, start casting off as follows: START (= from the right side): Cast on 3 stitches on the right-hand needle from the right side. Slip these 3 stitches onto the left needle, so the strand is 3 stitches in on the left needle (the strand tightens the work to form a small tube). ROW 1 (right side): Knit 2, knit 2 twisted together. Slip the 3 stitches back onto the left needle. Do not turn. Repeat ROW 1 until there are 3 stitches left. Slip these 3 stitches onto the left needle. Cast off. Sew a small stitch, joining the beginning and the end of the I-cord. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 68-68-72-72-78-82-82 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm, DROPS Alpaca Bouclé and DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (2 strands). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 21-21-22-22-23-24-24 stitches (approx. mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 7 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 10-10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches evenly on this round = 58-58-62-62-66-70-70 stitches. Insert 4 markers without working the stitches, each inserted into a stitch; these are the raglan-stitches and you increase for raglan on each side of these stitches. Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 7 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 20-20-22-22-24-26-26 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 7 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 20-20-22-22-24-26-26 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Work stocking stitch in the round and increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above for how to work the yarn overs on the following round. Increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches every 2nd round a total of 14-15-17-18-18-18-19 times = 170-178-198-206-210-214-222 stitches (= 8 increased stitches on each increase-round). The increases for the sleeves are finished but continue increasing for the front and back pieces every 2nd round 2-3-2-2-3-4-5 more times = 178-190-206-214-222-230-242 stitches (= 4 increased stitches on each increase-round). Continue with stocking stitch, without further increases, until the yoke measures 22-24-25-27-28-30-32 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit 1 (this stitch belongs to the back piece), place the next 35-37-41-43-43-43-45 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 54-58-62-64-68-72-76 (= front piece), place the next 35-37-41-43-43-43-45 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 53-57-61-63-67-71-75 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 120-132-140-148-160-172-180 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Work to this marker; the round now begins here. Continue with stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the marker mid-front. Cast off with I-CORD CAST OFF – read explanation above. The jumper measures approx. 53-55-57-59-61-63-65 cm from the marker mid-front and 56-58-60-62-64-66-68 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 35-37-41-43-43-43-45 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 7 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 41-45-49-53-55-57-59 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 1 cm from the division, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6-6-4-3½-3-4-3 cm a total of 3-3-4-4-4-3-3 times = 35-39-41-45-47-51-53 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 18-17-16-15-14-13-12 cm from the division. On the next round increase 3 stitches evenly spaced = 38-42-44-48-50-54-56 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 21-20-19-18-17-16-15 cm from the division. On the next round increase 4 stitches evenly spaced = 42-46-48-52-54-58-60 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 41-40-39-38-37-36-35 cm from the division. On the next round decrease 13-15-15-16-16-16-17 stitches evenly spaced = 29-31-33-36-38-42-43 stitches. Cast off with I-cord cast-off. The sleeve measures approx. 42-41-40-39-38-37-36 cm from the division. |
