------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 treble/double crochet is wide. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. CROCHET INFORMATION: WHEN WORKING BACK AND FORTH (until split is finished): At the beginning of each row of treble crochets, work 3 chain stitches which replace the first treble crochet. The last treble crochet on the row is worked in the 3rd/1st chain stitch from the beginning of the previous row. At the beginning of each row of double crochets, work 1 chain stitch, which replaces the first double crochet. The last double crochet on the row is worked in the 3rd chain stitch from the beginning of the previous row. WHEN WORKING IN THE ROUND (rest of skirt): At the beginning of each round of treble crochets, work 3 chain stitches which replace the first treble crochet. The round is finished with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch. Turn. At the beginning of each round of double crochets, work 1 chain stitch, which replaces the first double crochet. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 1st chain stitch on the round. Turn. INCREASE TIP-1: Increase 1 treble crochet by working 2 treble crochets in the same stitch. INCREASE TIP-2: To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches (e.g., 124 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 8) = 15.5. In this example, increase by working 2 treble crochets in alternately each 5th and 6th stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SKIRT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked top down, first back and forth until the split is finished, then in the round but turning after each round and working alternately from the right and wrong side. This method maintains the structured pattern established when working back and forth. An edge of double crochets is worked around the top of the skirt and a button-band worked along one side of the split to finish. SKIRT: Work 122-138-154-170-182-206-230 CHAIN STITCHES – read explanation above, with crochet hook size 3.5 mm and DROPS Lima. Work PATTERN – read explanation above, as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Read CROCHET INFORMATION. Work A.2 in the 4th and 5th chain stitch from the hook, continue A.2 until there is 1 chain stitch left, work A.3 in this chain stitch, turn = 120-136-152-168-180-204-228 treble crochets. ROW 2 (right side): Work A.3 in the first stitch, work A.2 until there is 1 stitch left, A.1. ROW 3 (wrong side): Work A.1 in the first stitch, A.2 until there is 1 stitch left, A.3. Continue this pattern back and forth, repeating the pattern in height until the piece measures 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm. Remember to maintain the crochet tension. OVERVIEW OF THE NEXT SECTION: Stitches are now increased and the piece is joined when the split is finished. Read both the next 2 paragraphs before continuing. INCREASES: Read INCREASE TIP-1 and INCREASE TIP-2. Increase 8 stitches evenly but only on rows/rounds of treble crochets, i.e., rows 1, 4, 5 and 6). Increase like this every 2-2½-3-3-3½-3½-4 cm a total of 6-6-6-6-6-6-6 times = 168-184-200-216-228-252-276 stitches. Then increase every 4-5-6-6-5-4½-4 cm, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 times = 176-200-224-248-268-300-332 stitches. WHEN SPLIT IS FINISHED: When the piece measures 12-12-12-14-14-14-16 cm from the cast-on edge the split is finished. Continue in the round – read CROCHET INFORMATION (alternately from the right and wrong side). Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54-56 cm from the cast-on edge, finishing after a round of treble crochets. Cut and fasten the strand. TOP EDGE: Start from the right side at the top of the split and work 1 double crochet in each stitch from the cast-on edge = 120-136-152-168-180-204-228 double crochets. Cut and fasten the strand after this row. BUTTON-LOOPS: Along the split-side on the front piece work 3 button-loops, starting from the right side with 1 slip stitch at the bottom of the split. Work 3 chain stitches (= 1 button-loop), skip 1 cm, * work double crochets for 4½-4½-4½-5½-5½-5½-6½ cm along the split (2 double crochets in each treble crochet row and 1 double crochet in each double crochet row), work 3 chain stitches (= 1 button-loop), skip 1 cm *, work from *-* 2 times, then finish with 1 double crochet in the last row at the top of the skirt. Cut and fasten the strand. BUTTON-BAND: Along the other side of the split, starting from the right side, work 1 slip stitch in the first row at the top of the skirt, then work 2 double crochets in each treble crochet row and 1 double crochet in each double crochet row to the bottom of the split. Work 3 rows with 1 double crochet in each stitch. Cut and fasten the strand. Sew the buttons onto the button-band, matching the button-loops. |
