Do you increase before and after each row of A2?
24.02.2025 - 22:16DROPS Design answered:
Hi Stephanie, Yes, you increase for raglan by making 1 yarn over before and after each A.2. Remember to work these yarn overs towards the right before A.2 and towards the left after A.2, as described under Raglan at the top of the page. Happy knitting!

Dear Irene, for chart A.1, in row 1, you work the two symbols as follows: * slip 1 stitch on cable needle behind piece, knit 1, knit stitch from cable needle ; slip 1 stitch on cable needle in front of piece, knit 2 together, knit 1 from cable needle *. On the next row, purl from the wrong side. Happy knitting!

Wat jammer dat er steeds meer patronen verschijnen die van boven naar beneden gebreid worden! Breien met een rondbreinaald kan ik absoluut niet, en ik ben niet de enige.

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (when working back and forth): Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. RAGLAN: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT BEFORE A.2: Make a yarn over on right needle by placing the yarn around right needle from behind and forwards, on next row purl yarn over in front loop of stitch. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT AFTER A.2: Make a yarn over on right needle by placing the yarn around right needle in front of needle and then pull the yarn backwards, on next row purl yarn over in back loop of stitch. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5 stitches in garter stitch. END OF ROW: Work band as follows: Work until 7 stitches remain on row, work 5 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 5-5-5-6-6-6 buttonholes, approx. 9-9½-10-8½-9-9½ cm apart. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is in the middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve so that the holes closes. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 97-103-105-111-111-113 stitches on circular needle size 5.5 mm with 1 strand DROPS Daisy and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands), or 1 strand DROPS Lima and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Switch to circular needle size 4 mm and work as follows: From right side: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1, knit until 2 stitches remain on row, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece and knit 1. From wrong side: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1, purl until 2 stitches remain on row, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece and knit 1. Work these 2 rows 1 more time = 4 rows worked. Continue as follows: From right side: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1, work rib (knit 1/purl 1) until 3 stitches remain, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece and knit 1. From wrong side: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1, work rib (purl 1/knit 1) until 3 stitches remain, purl 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece and knit 1. Work these 2 rows 1 more time = 4 rows worked. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5.5 mm and work first row from right side as follows: Work 7 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, knit the next 10-12-12-14-14-14 stitches, A.1, knit the next 11-11-11-11-11-11 stitches, A.1, knit the next 21-23-25-27-27-29 stitches, A.1, knit the next 11-11-11-11-11-11 stitches, A.1, knit the next 10-12-12-14-14-14 stitches, finish with 7 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD = 93-99-101-107-107-109 stitches. Work 1 row from wrong side (= last row in A.1), stocking stitch and bands as before. Remember to decrease for BUTTONHOLES - read explanation above. Insert 1 marker in piece inside band stitches. Marker is used for measurements. Then work A.2 over every repetition of A.1, stocking stitch and band as before and increase for RAGLAN - read explanation above: ROW 1 (= right side): Increase by making a yarn over before and after every A.2 (= 8 stitches increased). ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern as before, work the new stitches in stocking stitch. Work 1st and 2nd row 1-2-5-7-5-8 times (= 2-4-10-14-10-16 rows have been worked) = 101-115-141-163-147-173 stitches on needle. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Continue with stocking stitch, band and A.2 as before, and increase for raglan as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Increase by making a yarn over before and after every A.2 (= 8 stitches increased) ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern as before, work the new stitches in stocking stitch. ROW 3 (= right side): Increase by making a yarn over before 1st repetition of A.2, after 2nd repetition of A.2, before 3rd repetition of A.2 and after 4th repetition of A.2, i.e. increase only on front pieces and back piece, do not increase on sleeves (= 4 stitches increased). ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work pattern as before, work the new stitches in stocking stitch. Work 1st to 4th row 12-12-11-11-14-14 times (= 48-48-44-44-56-56 rows have been worked, you have increased 12-12-11-11-14-14 times on sleeves, 24-24-22-22-28-28 times on front pieces/back piece) = 245-259-273-295-315-341 stitches on needle. All increases for raglan are done, you have increased 25-26-27-29-33-36 times on front piece/back piece and 13-14-16-18-19-22 times on sleeves. Work stocking stitch, A.2 and band as before, without increasing, until piece measures approx. 24-25-26-28-31-34 cm from marker mid front. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 44-47-48-52-56-59 stitches in stocking stitch (= front piece), slip the next 41-43-47-51-53-59 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 75-79-83-89-97-105 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), slip the next 41-43-47-51-53-59 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 44-47-48-52-56-59 stitches in stocking stitch (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 183-197-207-225-245-263 stitches. Work in stocking stitch and band as before until piece measures 49-51-53-55-57-59 cm from marker mid front. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm. Work as follows - from right side: band stitches as before, rib (knit 1/purl 1) until 8 stitches remain, knit 1 and band as before. Work 4 rows rib like this. Then work as follows: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1, knit until 2 stitches remain on row, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece and knit 1. From wrong side: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1, purl until 2 stitches remain on row, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece and knit 1. Work these 2 rows 1 more time = 4 rows worked. Cast off with circular needle size 5.5 mm. Jacket measures 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from marker mid front and approx. 55-57-59-61-63-65 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 41-43-47-51-53-59 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 5.5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 51-55-61-67-71-79 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work in stocking stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 3 cm from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 10-8-5-3½-2½-2 cm 3-4-6-9-10-13 times in total = 45-47-49-49-51-53 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 38-38-37-35-33-31 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 4 mm. Work 4 rounds with rib (= knit 1/purl 1), on first round increase 1 stitch = 44-46-48-48-50-52 stitches. Then knit 4 rounds. Cast off with double pointed needles size 5.5 mm. Sleeve measures approx. 41-41-40-38-36-34 cm from division. |
