------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- KNITTING TIP (front legs): The number of stitches knitted up around the opening for the front legs should be divisible by 4 for the rib. If you have problems knitting up the correct number of stitches, increase or decrease to the correct number on the first round. DECREASE TIP: All decreases are done from the right side. Decrease by knitting 2 stitches together. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- DOG’S JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked from neck to tail. After the neck, the piece is divided and the back and tummy are worked separately to leave an opening for the front legs. Then continued in the round before casting off, first under the tummy then diagonally towards the tail. The front legs are worked to finish. NECK AND YOKE: Cast on 32-40-44-52 stitches with short circular needle/double pointed needles size 7 mm and DROPS Snow. Work rib for 5-7-8-10 cm (knit 2, purl 2, starting with knit 2 so the rib matches throughout the piece). Change to needle size 9 mm and work as follows: ROUND 1: Work 14-18-22-26 stitches in rib (tummy), stocking stitch over the next 18-22-22-26 stitches and increase 4 stitches evenly spaced (= 22-26-26-30 stitches on back) = 36-44-48-56 stitches. Work the next row from the beginning of the round as follows: Cast off 2 stitches (for front legs), work 12-16-20-24 stitches in rib as before (tummy), turn and work back from the wrong side: Cast off 2 stitches (for front legs), work rib over the next 10-14-18-22 stitches. Turn. Work back and forth over the last 10-14-18-22 stitches (tummy), place the other stitches on a stitch holder (back). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! The piece is now measured from here! TUMMY: = 10-14-18-22 stitches. Start from the right side and cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of the row, work rib to end of row. Decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the next row = 8-12-16-20 stitches. Continue the rib (which starts and finished with purl 1 from the right side) until the tummy measures 7-8-9-10 cm and the total length is approx. 14-17-19-22 cm measured along the tummy; last row from the wrong side. Cut the strand and continue working the back. BACK: Place the 22-26-26-30 back-stitches on circular needle size 9 mm. Work back and forth with stocking stitch and cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of each of the first 4 rows = 18-22-22-26 stitches. Work until the back measures 5-6-7-8 cm (approx. 12-15-17-20 cm from the cast-on edge measured along the back), with the last row from the wrong side (the back is slightly shorter than the tummy for a better fit). The two pieces are now joined, with stitches cast on behind the front leg opening. BODY: The piece is now measured from here! Start from the right side after the back piece, cast on 3 stitches, work the 8-12-16-20 tummy stitches in rib as before, cast on 3 stitches, work stocking stitch as far as the first 3 cast-on stitches. There are 32-40-44-52 stitches and the round now starts here. Work rib over the middle 10-14-18-22 stitches (tummy) and stocking stitch over the other 22-26-26-30 stitches (back). Work until the body measures 7-10-12-13 cm; there is approx. 9-9-13-17 cm to finished length along the back, try the jumper on and work to desired length. Insert a marker on each side of the middle 4-8-12-16 tummy stitches. On the next round continue with rib and stocking stitch as before, at the same time as the stitches between the markers are cast off (cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl) = 28-32-32-36 stitches. Work to end of round. Now continue back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl 1, knit 2, purl until there are 3 stitches left, knit 2, purl 1 and cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 29-35-33-37 stitches. ROW 2 (right side): Knit 2, purl 2, knit until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2, knit 1 and cast on 1 stitch = 30-36-34-38 stitches. ROW 3 (wrong side): Purl 2, knit 2, purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2, purl 2. ROW 4 (right side): Work the first 4 stitches as before, knit 2 together, knit until there are 6 stitches left, knit 2 together, work the last 4 stitches as before = 28-34-32-36 stitches. ROW 5 (wrong side): Knit over knit and purl over purl. Continue the established pattern and decrease from the right side, 1 stitch inside the 4 outermost stitches on each side, as follows in the different sizes – read DECREASE TIP: SIZES XS and S: Decrease every 2nd row 6-6 times = 18-24 stitches. SIZE M: Decrease alternately every 2nd and 4th row 6 times = 22 stitches. SIZE L: Decrease every 4th row 6 times = 26 stitches. ALL SIZES: On the next row from the right side: Knit 2 together 3-4-3-3 times, knit 6-8-10-14, knit 2 together 3-4-3-3 times = 12-16-16-20 stitches. Cast off a little loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. The piece measures approx. 28-34-42-50 cm from neck to tail (measured along the back). FRONT LEGS: Using double pointed needles size 7 mm and DROPS Snow, knit up approx. 20-24-24-28 stitches around the opening on one leg (knit up inside 1 stitch, the stitch count should be divisible by 4 – read KNITTING TIP). Work rib in the round (purl 2, knit 2) for 5-6-7-8 cm. Cast off loosely. Repeat around the other opening. |
