Hello! I’m a little confused how to do the following: “After the heel decreases, knit up 15-15-17 stitches along each side of the heel and place the 30-32-34 stitches from the thread back on the needle = 74-76-84 stitches.” Can you please share a video tutorial link or some written instructions? Thank you!

Dear Rebecca, sure, in this video we show how to work a heel, and from time code 06:00 how to pick up stitches along heel and how to work sts from thread and how to decrease for instep. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 7-8-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-8-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 14-14-16 stitches left on the needle. DECREASE TIP (for toe): Start 2 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, marker, knit 2 twisted together (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the other marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round, top down, with double pointed needles. LEG: Cast on 72-76-80 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and DROPS Nord. Knit 1 round. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 11-12-13 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 16 stitches evenly spaced = 56-60-64 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the leg measures 17-18-19 cm, work the heel and foot. HEEL AND FOOT: Keep the first 13-14-15 stitches on the needle for the heel, place the next 30-32-34 stitches on a thread (top of foot) and keep the last 13-14-15 stitches on the needle = 26-28-30 heel stitches. Work stocking stitch back and forth for 6-6-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the last row – the foot is measured from this marker. Work HEEL DECREASES – read description above. After the heel decreases, knit up 15-15-17 stitches along each side of the heel and place the 30-32-34 stitches from the thread back on the needle = 74-76-84 stitches. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 30-32-34 stitches on top of the foot. Continue in the round with stocking stitch and begin to decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker. Decrease like this every round a total of 4 times, then every 2nd round 7-6-8 times = 52-56-60 stitches. Continue working until the foot measures 18-19-20 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. There is 4-5-6 cm left; try the sock on and work to desired length before working the toe. TOE: Insert 1 marker in each side with 26-28-30 stitches both on top and under the foot. Work stocking stitch and, on the first round, decrease for the toe on each side of both markers - read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 4-7-9 times, then every round 6-3-2 times = 12-16-16 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6-8-8 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-26 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. |
