How to measure your tension/gauge

It`s important to check your gauge:

Make sure that the measurements on your project will be according to the pattern. Always make a little swatch.

If it says in the pattern that the gauge should be 17 stitches and 22 row equals 4 x 4 inches (10x10cm) on needle 5mm/ US 8, cast on 20 stitches on needle 5mm/US8 and knit stockinette back and forth over 24 rows in height.

Place a ruler on top of your swatch and count the number of stitches pr 4 inch/10 cm vertically and horizontally. If you have more then 17 stitches, the stitches er to small. Try with a bigger needle. If you have less 17 stitches, the stitches are to big. Try with a smaller needle.

When you have figured out what needle to use you are ready to start. Remember it`s smart to check your gauge several times while you are knitting to.

Hola Chus. Te refieres a que el ancho de la muestra es 10 cm y el alto 7 cm? En este caso tienes que trabajar más filas/vueltas en vertical de las que se indican en el patrón para alcanzar las medidas necesarias. En caso de que sea el ancho el de 7 cm, tienes que montar más puntos o cambiar a una aguja de mayor tamaño.

Dag Marion,

Het is inderdaad het beste om je aan de aanbevolen stekenverhouding te houden. Deze stekenverhouding past het beste bij het garen en/of het gewenste effect van het ontwerp. Kies de naalddikte die de juiste stekenverhouding geeft en waarbij je normaal ontspannen breit, zodat je niet opzettelijk te strak hoeft te breien, omdat je dit niet volhoudt en dan wordt het werk onregelmatig.

Liebe Toxi, zuerst stricken Sie eine Maschenprobe mit der gegebene Nadelgrößen, dann waschen und nach Trocknung die Maschenprobe prüfen, wenn es nicht stimmt, dann Nadelgröße anpassen wie erklärt. Viel Spaß beim stricken!

Hola Maribel, sí, hay que tener en cuenta el número de puntos en la fila, por lo que, efectivamente, deberías escoger el ganchillo de 3.5 mm.

Hoi Maria. Je moet uitgaan van de stekenverhouding aangegeven in het patroon: 11 st x 20 nld in gerstekorrel = 10 x 10. Brei eerst een proeflapje en zorg ervoor dat deze stekenverhouding klopt voordat je gaat beginnen.

Hi Elena. you must do a little knitting swatch before starting the pattern with untreated yarn( not washed or anything) and then you must check that the tension/gauge is the same as in the pattern. For any future questions, you may write in Russian if you'd like.

Bonjour Isabelle, pour l'échantillon, rappelez-vous de toujours monter plus de mailles que pour l'échantillon (soit plus de 15 m en largeur) et de tricoter plus de rangs (soit ici plus de 19 rangs) pour bien pouvoir le mesurer - cf explications ci-dessous. Effectivement dans votre cas, il vous faudrait essayer avec des aiguilles plus grosses. Merci de contacter le magasin où vous avez acheté votre matériel pour plus d'informations. Bon tricot!

Hola Esther, nunca estiramos la lana a la hora de hacer la muestra. Calcula la medida tal y como queda sin estirar. Luego, al finalizar la prenda es cuando le damos forma.

Bonjour Mme Sarukhanyan, l'échantillon va se faire de la même façon: montez un peu plus de ml que pour l'échantillon et crochetez le point indiqué sur quelques rangs de plus et mesurez ensuite la largeur/hauteur du nbe de mailles de votre échantillon. Si nécessaire, recommencez avec un crochet plus petit/plus gros jusqu'à ce que vous trouviez la bonne taille. Bon crochet!
