I have a question for the neck warmer. The pattern says first starts working on rounds on double pointed needles. But at a later paragraph, also says cast on stiches on circular needles. So I sure what does it means to start with double pointed needles or start with circular needles right a way. Thank you for helping.
20.09.2024 - 01:37DROPS Design answered:
Hi Dorothy, You start the neck warmer using double pointed needles as there are too few stitches to use a circular needle. As you increase stitches for the shoulders you change to circular needle to avoid stitches falling off the short double pointed needles. Happy knitting!

Miksi kaulurissa kavennetaan silmukoita? Ensimmäinen kauluri tekeillä, joten kaikki on vähän uutta.
29.01.2022 - 08:35DROPS Design answered:

DROPS Children 37-16 |
|
---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (in the round - applies to neck warmer): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. GARTER STITCH (work back and forth - applies to neck warmer): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP (applies to neck warmer): Increase on each side of shoulder stitches by picking up stitches as follows: Increase as follows after 1st and 3rd marker: Work until marker, move marker on to right needle, use right needle to pick up loop before next stitch on to left needle so that right side of loop is on the right side of piece, knit 1 stitch in back loop of loop (loop will now be twisted to avoid holes and stitch is leaning towards the left). Increase as follows before 2nd and 4th marker: Work until marker before shoulder stitches, use right needle to pick up loop before next stitch on to left needle so that left side of loop is on the right side of piece, knit 1 stitch in loop (loop will now be twisted to avoid holes and stitch is leaning towards the right), move marker on to right needle. CAST-OFF TIP (applies to neck warmer): To avoid a tight cast-off edge you may use a larger needle size. If this also is too tight, work a 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as regular stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on circular needle. Switch to double pointed needles when needed. HAT: Cast on 96 (104-108-112-116) stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with Merino Extra Fine. Knit 1 round. Then work rib = knit 2/purl 2. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When rib measures 23 (23-24-25-27) cm (including 8 cm folding edge, approx. 4 cm remain), turn piece and work from wrong side and decrease as follows (this is done so that lower edge should show from the right side when it is folded up): ROUND 1: Decrease all 2 purl stitches to 1 purl stitch (purl 2 together) = 72 (78-81-84-87) stitches. ROUND 2-3: Knit over knit and purl over purl. ROUND 4: Decrease all 2 knit stitches to 1 knit stitch (knit 2 together) = 48 (52-54-56-58) stitches. ROUND 5-6: Knit over knit and purl over purl. ROUND 7: Knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 24 (26-27-28-29) stitches. ROUND 8-9: Knit all stitches. ROUND 10: Knit all stitches together 2 by 2 until 0 (0-1-0-1) stitch remains, knit 0 (0-1-0-1) = 12 (13-14-14-15) stitches. ROUND 11: Knit all stitches. ROUND 12: Knit all stitches together 2 by 2 until 0 (1-0-0-1) stitch remains, knit 0 (1-0-0-1) = 6 (7-7-7-8) stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Hat measures approx. 27 (27-28-29-31) cm from cast-on edge. Fold 8 cm at the bottom upwards. ASSEMBLY: Make a pompom with pink, cerise, mustard and light grey blue with an approx. diameter of 12 cm and fasten it at the top of the hat. ---------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER - SHORT SUMMARY OF PIECE: Worked top down. First work in the round on double pointed needles, then switch to circular needle and increase stitches for shoulder. Cast off shoulder stitches and work each part back and forth on circular needle. NECK WARMER: Cast on 88 (96-104-112-120) stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with Merino Extra Fine. Work rib (= knit 2/purl 2). When piece measures 7 (7-8-9-9) cm, switch to circular needle size 4 mm and continue as follows (from mid on top of shoulder): Insert 1 marker thread at the beginning of round (leave marker thread in piece, use for measurements later). Knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, insert 1st marker, work 34 (38-42-46-50) stitches in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, and decrease 8 stitches evenly, insert 2nd marker, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, insert 3rd marker, work 34 (38-42-46-50) stitches in garter stitch and decrease 8 stitches evenly, insert 4th marker and finish with knit 2 and purl 2 = 72 (80-88-96-104) stitches. Shoulder stitches are stitches between 1st and 4th marker and 2nd and 3rd marker. Continue rib over shoulder stitches and garter stitch over stitch on front/back piece while increasing 1 stitch at every marker on every round - read INCREASE TIP (= 4 stitches increased on every round). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work the increased stitches in garter stitch. Continue like this until piece measures 3 (3-4-4-4) cm from marker thread = approx.104 (112-132-140-148) stitches. On next round, cast off shoulder stitches as follows: Cast of the first 6 stitches, work in garter stitch as before over the next approx. 42 (46-56-60-64) stitches until 2nd marker, cast off the next 10 shoulder stitch, work in garter stitch as before over the next approx. 42 (46-56-60-64) stitches until 4th marker, cast off the last 4 stitches. Then finish each part separately. Work in GARTER STITCH back and forth – read explanation above, over the approx. 42 (46-56-60-64) stitches on front/back piece until piece measures approx. 9 (10-12-13-14) cm, measured from where last shoulder stitch on each shoulder were cast off. Cast off by knitting– read CAST-OFF TIP. Work the other front piece/back piece the same way. |
