INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN:

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.3.

LATVIAN CABLE:
The cable is made up of 2 rounds – both rounds are drawn in diagram and are worked as follows:
ROUND 1: Lay both strands in front of piece (towards you). Take the green strand to the back, purl 1, take the strand to the front again. Take the off white strand under the green strand and to the back of the piece, purl 1 and take the strand to the front again. Continue to purl alternately with green and off white, but always take the strand UNDER the strand from the last stitch worked.
ROUND 2: Work as round 1, but now always take the strand OVER the strand from the last stitch worked.
----------------------------------------------------------

LEFT MITTEN:
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles.
Cast on 52 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and green and purl 1 round. Then work according to diagram A.1 - on the 2nd, 3rd, 12th and 13th round in the diagram work LATVIAN CABLE – see description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When you have worked as far as the 3 black squares in the diagram, work A.2 (= thumb) over these 3 stitches, the remaining stitches are continued as shown in A.1. When A.2 has been worked up to and including round 13 (see arrow in diagram) and you have increased 5 times, place the 13 thumb stitches on 1 thread. Cast on 3 new stitches behind the stitches on the thread = 52 stitches. Continue to wok according to A.1. After all decreases there are 12 stitches left on round. Cut the strands, pull them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The mitten measures approx. 26 cm.

THUMB:
Place the 13 thumb-stitches back on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Knit up 9 stitches behind the thumb = 22 stitches. Continue in the round according to A.2. After all the decreases there are 8 stitches left on round. Cut the strands, pull them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.

RIGHT MITTEN:
Cast on and work as for left mitten, but work according to diagram A.3 instead of A.1 so that the thumb is on the opposite side.

POM POM:
Work 1 small pom pom with off white of approx. 3 cm in diameter and use the strand ends to fasten the pom pom to the side of the mitten (see photo). There are 2 pom poms in the side of each mitten.
