On the hat pattern after the ribbing it says to decrease evenly by 8 stitches. If I decrease by 8 stitches the moss stitch pattern is off. I will have 2 knit stitches side by side at the beginning/end of round due to it being an even number of stitches (72). Is this correct?
14.04.2020 - 19:55DROPS Design answered:
Dear Becky, this is correct, but you can decrease either 1 more or 1 less stitch if you like the moss stitch to fit in the round - just remember that your number of stitches is different than the one in the pattern. Happy knitting!

Where does the updates correction fit in please? As you switch to DPN’s? Thankyou
07.10.2019 - 21:37DROPS Design answered:
Dear Denise, if you printed the pattern before the correction date, then the correction applies, if you printed the pattern after the correction, pattern has been already edited. Hat is started with dpn smaller size, then after 2-3-4 cm rib edge (see size), you continue with larger dpn. Happy knitting!

GARTER STITCH (in the round - applies to hat): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. MOSS STITCH: Row 1: * Knit 1, purl 1 *, repeat from *-*. Row 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat 2nd row upwards. ---------------------------------------------------------- BEGIN PIECE FOR HAT HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work the hat in the round, bottom up. HAT: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Loosely cast on (68) 80-92-96-104 (112-116) stitches on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with light lavender. Work rib = knit 2/purl 2 for (2) 2-3-3-3 (4-4) cm. Switch to double pointed needles size 3 mm and knit 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing 8 stitches evenly = (60) 72-84-88-96 (104-108) stitches. Continue with MOSS STITCH - see explanation above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION. When piece measures (9) 10-11-11-13 (13-14) cm, work in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. On next knit round decrease (6) 8-7-8-8 (8-9) stitches evenly. Repeat decrease every other round (i.e. every knit round) (5) 5-5-5-5 (6-6) more times (= (6) 6-6-6-6 (7-7) decrease rounds in total) = (24) 24-42-40-48 (48-45) stitches. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2. Purl 1 round and repeat decrease on next knit round in size 1/3, 6/9 and 12/18 months and (2 - 3/4) years (do not decrease in the other sizes) = (12) 12-11-10-12 (12-12) stitches. Pull a double yarn through the remaining stitches and fasten tightly. ---------------------------------------------------------- BEGIN PIECE FOR SHAWL SCARF HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Begin in the middle of shawl and work outwards with increases. SHAWL: Cast on 15 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm and work as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 6, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 6, 1 yarn over and knit 1 = 19 stitches on circular needle. Insert a marker thread in the middle stitch. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit until 1 stitch remains, 1 yarn over and knit 1 = 2 stitches increased. ROW 3: Knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit until middle stitch, 1 yarn over, knit 1 (= middle stitch), 1 yarn over, knit until 1 stitch remains, 1 yarn over and knit 1 = 4 stitches increased. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures approx. 22 cm measured along middle stitch - or desired measurements. Loosely cast off. Fasten off. |
