------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. MEASURING TIP: All length-measurements are taken when holding the garment up, or the dress will be too long when worn. DECREASE TIP: AT BEGINNING OF ROW: Knit 1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (1 decreased stitch). AT END OF ROW: Work until there are 3 stitches left on the row, knit 2 together, knit 1 (1 decreased stitch). CAST-OFF WITH I-CORD: When all stitches are knitted up, cast off with I-cord on the next round as follows: START (right side): Cast on 2 stitches on the right needle, from the right side. Slip these 2 stitches onto the left needle with the strand 2 stitches in on the needle (the strand tightens the piece as you work onwards to form a small tube). ROW 1 (right side): Knit 1, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. Slip the 2 stitches onto the left needle. Do not turn. Repeat ROW 1 until there are 2 stitches left. Slip these stitches onto the left needle. Cast off. Sew a small stitch joining the beginning and end of the I-cord. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- DRESS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The skirt and belt are worked in the round, top down, working first the lining and then the belt with pattern. The stitch count is doubled and the skirt is continued. A lining is worked at the bottom of the skirt, which is folded in and fastened to the wrong side of the skirt. The vest is worked back and forth, bottom up, knitting up stitches in the transition between the skirt and belt. The vest is worked as far as the armholes, then divided and the front and back pieces are finished separately. The shoulder seams are sewn and an I-cord edge is worked along the neckline and around the armholes. LINING (for the belt): Cast on 120-132-144-156-168 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and colour Black DROPS Alpaca. Do not cast on too tightly. Work stocking stitch in the round for 10 cm. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Work next round as follows: *Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 stitches together, repeat from *-* all the round (folding-edge). BELT: Work A.1 (= 12 stitches) in the round (10-11-12-13-14 repeats). When A.1 is finished, the belt measures approx. 11 cm and the piece 21 cm from the cast-on edge (including the lining). SKIRT: Insert 1 marker; the piece is measured from here. Continue with colour Black as follows: * Knit 1, make 1 yarn over *, repeat from *-* across all stitches = 240-264-288-312-336 stitches. The yarn overs are knitted twisted on the next round to avoid holes. Continue with stocking stitch until the skirt measures 17-24-28-33-41 cm from the marker – read MEASURING-TIP. There is 10 cm left to finished length + lining. Work A.2 across all stitches. When A.2 is finished, the skirt measures approx. 27-34-38-43-51 cm from the marker – remember MEASURING-TIP. LINING (for skirt): Continue with colour Black. Purl 1 round (folding-edge). Work until the lining measures 10 cm from the purled round. Cast off slightly loosely. ASSEMBLY-1: Fold the lining at the top of the belt to the inside and sew down using colour Black. Sew in the first round, making sure not to sew too tightly (sew in approx. every 2nd stitch). If the lining is too short or too long, adjust this before sewing down. The lining should be 1 cm shorter than the belt so it doesn’t roll outwards after being sewn down. Fold the lining at the bottom of the skirt to the inside and sew down in the same way. VEST: Stitches are now knitted up for the vest at the bottom of the belt, in the transition between the belt and the skirt. Use colour Red. Start mid-front on the inside of the belt, making sure the beginning of the round on the belt will be under one sleeve on the vest. Knit up 1 stitch in each stitch = 120-132-144-156-168 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread after the first 30-33-36-39-42 stitches (= front piece), and 1 marker-thread before the last 30-33-36-39-42 stitches (= front piece), with 60-66-72-78-84 stitches between the marker-threads on the back piece. The markers are used when casting off for the armholes. Work stocking stitch back and forth from mid-front. AT THE SAME TIME on the first row from the right side, decrease 1 stitch for the V-neck on each side of the row – read DECREASE TIP (2 decreased stitches). Decrease like this every 4th row 8-9-9-10-10 times, then every 6th row 4 times (12-13-13-14-14 decreased stitches each side; the decreases continue after dividing for the front and back pieces). When the vest measures 13-14-15-16-17 cm, divide for the front and back pieces as follows: Work until there are 3-3-4-4-4 stitches left before the first marker-thread, cast off the next 6-6-8-8-8 stitches for the armhole, work 54-60-64-70-76 stitches (3-3-4-4-4 stitches left before the second marker-thread), cast off the next 6-6-8-8-8 stitches for the armhole, work to end of row. Do not cut the strand. Turn and work the front piece as follows. FRONT PIECES: Continue back and forth as before, decreasing 1 stitch for the armhole on each row from the right side – remember DECREASE TIP, a total of 3-4-5-6-8 times. And remember, the decreases for the V-neck also continue as before. When the decreases for the V-neck and armhole are finished, there are 12-13-14-15-16 stitches. Continue working until the front piece measures 23-25-27-29-31 cm from the knitted-up edge – remember MEASURING-TIP. Cast off. BACK PIECE: = 54-60-64-70-76 stitches. Continue back and forth as before, decreasing 1 stitch for the armholes each side, on each row from the right side – remember DECREASE TIP (2 decreased stitches) a total of 3-4-5-6-8 times (6-8-10-12-16 stitches decreased for the armholes) = 48-52-54-58-60 stitches. Work until the back piece measures 20-22-24-26-28 cm from the knitted-up row. On the next row from the right side, work 13-14-15-16-17 stitches as before, cast off the next 22-24-24-26-26 stitches for the neckline, work 13-14-15-16-17 stitches as before. Each shoulder is finished separately: Work back and forth, casting off 1 stitch for the neckline on the next row from the neck = 12-13-14-15-16 stitches. Work until the back piece measures 23-25-27-29-31 cm from the knitted-up row - matching the length to the front pieces. Cast off. The dress measures 50-59-65-72-82 cm from the shoulder. ASSEMBLY-2: Sew the shoulder seams with grafting stitch. If desired, you can tack a strand vertically through the lining, belt and vest under each sleeve to hold the belt in place. I-CORD EDGES: Use circular needle size 3 mm and colour Black, work an edge around the armholes and neckline as follows: Armholes: Start at the bottom of the armhole and knit up 58-64-70-76-82 stitches evenly around the armhole. On the next round, CAST OFF WITH I-CORD– read explanation above. Neckline: Start mid-front at the bottom of the V-neck and knit up 144-156-166-180-190 evenly along the neckline, making sure to knit up 1 stitch in each cast-off stitch along the neckline at the back. On the next round, CAST OFF WITH I-CORD. |
