How to work the fair Isle in this pattern without jogs? Is it to be done every round? I would be very glad if you could give clear instructions how to do this, I don’t want to do a steek. Regards & Many thanks

Dear Cecilia, if you mean the jog at the beginning of the round, you can work as explained in this video, to hide the colour changes. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 128 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 16) = 8. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after each 8th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down, from mid-back. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. The neck is folded double and fastened to the inside. NECK: Cast on 112-116-120-124-128-132 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and colour dark grey DROPS Lima. Change to needle size 3 mm (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 9 cm. The neck is folded double later, leaving a neck-height of approx. 4 cm. Insert 1 marker after the first 56-58-60-62-64-66 stitches (mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Knit 1 round and increase 16-19-20-25-27-28 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 128-135-140-149-155-160 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and colour dark grey. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 2.5 cm from the marker, increase 16-19-20-25-27-28 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP = 144-154-160-174-182-188 stitches. When the yoke measures 5 cm from the marker, increase 36-38-40-50-54-56 stitches evenly spaced = 180-192-200-224-236-244 stitches. Now work PATTERN – read description above, working A.1 in the round, AT THE SAME TIME, on each round marked with an arrow in A.1 increase as follows - – remember INCREASE TIP: Arrow-1: Increase 44-48-48-56-60-68 stitches evenly spaced = 224-240-248-280-296-312 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 40-40-52-60-64-64 stitches evenly spaced = 264-280-300-340-360-376 stitches. Arrow-3: Adjust the stitch count to 266-285-304-342-361-380 stitches. When A.1 is finished, the yoke measures approx. 14 cm from the marker. Work and increase as shown in A.2 (14-15-16-18-19-20 repeats of A.2 on the round). When the increases in A.2 are finished there are 336-360-384-432-456-480 stitches. Continue working until the yoke measures 21-23-25-27-29-31 cm from the marker. The yoke is now divided for the body and sleeves. NOTE! A.2 is not finished. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Continue A.2 across the first 51-55-58-65-70-76 stitches (= half the back piece), place the next 66-70-76-86-88-88 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 9-9-11-11-11-15 stitches with colour dark grey (in side mid-under sleeve), continue A.2 across the next 102-110-116-130-140-152 stitches (= front piece), place the next 66-70-76-86-88-88 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 9-9-11-11-11-15 stitches with colour dark grey (in side mid-under sleeve), continue A.2 across the last 51-55-58-65-70-76 stitches. The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 222-238-254-282-302-334 stitches. Continue A.2, matching the pattern to the yoke. NOTE! The pattern will not fit in the sides; work the pattern as far as it will go but always with 1 stitch in dark grey outermost on each side. When A.2 is finished, continue with colour dark grey. Work until the piece measures 53-55-56-57-59-61 cm from the marker. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) AT THE SAME TIME increasing 34-34-38-38-38-42 stitches evenly spaced on round 1 = 256-272-292-320-340-376 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm, cast off. The jumper measures approx. 59-61-62-64-66-68 cm from the marker and 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 66-70-76-86-88-88 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 9-9-11-11-11-15 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 75-79-87-97-109-103 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 9-9-11-11-11-15 stitches under the sleeve. Continue A.2 in the round (the pattern will not fit under the sleeve). When the sleeve measures 3 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 4-4-3-2-2-2 cm a total of 8-9-11-15-15-16 times = 59-61-65-67-69-71 stitches. When A.2 is finished, continue with colour dark grey. Continue working until the sleeve measures 45-43-43-40-39-38 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 5-7-7-5-7-5 stitches evenly on the first round = 64-68-72-72-76-76 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm, cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 51-49-49-47-46-45 cm. |
