------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP: Increase on each row from the right side: Work as far as the marker-stitch (mid-stitch), make 1 yarn over, knit the mid-stitch, make 1 yarn over. On the next row (wrong side) work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE MID-STITCH: Slip the yarn over onto the right needle knit-wise, replace it twisted onto the left needle, knit the front loop. AFTER MID-STITCH: Knit the yarn over twisted. DECREASE TIP: Decrease on each row from the right side: BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. END OF ROW: Work until there are 2 stitches left, knit 2 together. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HEART – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth, bottom up. To get a neat edge, work the outermost stitch a little tightly. HEART: Cast on 3 stitches with needle size 3.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Lima and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). ROW 1 (wrong side): Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1. ROW 2 (right side): Insert a marker in the middle stitch on needle. Knit and increase 1 stitch on each side of the mid-stitch – read INCREASE TIP = 5 stitches. ROW 3 (wrong side): Knit, with the mid-stitch purled and the yarn overs knitted twisted as described in INCREASE TIP, to avoid holes. The mid-stitch is continued in stocking stitch and the other stitches in GARTER STITCH – read description above, at the same time increase every 2nd row (each row from the right side) a total of 8 times = 19 stitches. Work the next row as follows from the wrong side: Knit 9 (remember to knit the yarn overs twisted), then place these stitches on a stitch holder, knit 2 twisted together, knit 8. The piece measures approx. 4 cm along each side. The two sides are finished separately. SIDE-1: = 9 stitches. Work 2 ridges back and forth over these stitches (i.e., 4 knitted rows). Then work as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit and decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the row – read DECREASE TIP = 8 stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit. ROW 3 (right side): Knit and decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the row and 1 stitch at the end of the row – remember DECREASE TIP = 6 stitches. ROW 4 (wrong side). Knit. ROW 5 (right side): Knit and decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the row = 5 stitches. On the next row (wrong side) decrease as follows: Knit 2 together, knit 1, pass the innermost stitch on the right needle over the outermost stitch, knit 2 together, pass the innermost stitch on the right needle over the outermost stitch. Cut the strand and thread it through the last stitch. SIDE-2: = 9 stitches. Start from the right side and work 2 ridges back and forth over these stitches. Then work as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit and decrease 1 stitch at the end of the row = 8 stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit. ROW 3 (right side): Knit and decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the row and 1 stitch at the end of the row = 6 stitches. ROW 4 (wrong side). Knit. ROW 5 (right side): Knit and decrease 1 stitch at the end of the row = 5 stitches. Fasten the strands. LOOP: Cut 2 strands DROPS Kid-Silk, each 16 cm in length, thread the strands through the mid-stitch at the top of the heart and tie a knot in the end. |
