Neap Tide: could you tell me if the following means that you knit 3 rows of knit (1 row per round) only over the 6 middle sections and then revert to rib for the remaining rounds ? “…Continue with knit 3 over these 6 sections of knit, the remaining stitches are worked in rib (knit 2/purl 2) as before = 154-170-190 stitches.”
24.04.2022 - 09:50DROPS Design answered:
Dear Keri, there are sections of knit (k2) and sections of purl (p2) in the rib. In the previous row, you have increased 1 stitch in the 6 middle sections of knit in the neck ( = top mid back), so these sections of knit will have 3 stitches instead of 2. Now, you continue working k3/p2 over these 6 middle sections (the knitted section with k3, the purl section with p2) and k2/p2 over the rest of the stitches in the row. Happy knitting!

Can this design be worked on single pointed needles
23.01.2019 - 10:13DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Bhartinder, the back piece is worked back and forth and the edge in the round all around the opening of vest - you will find how to adapt a pattern into straight needles here. Happy knitting!

Now this is a bolero done right! I'd get serious use outta this and prove my husband wrong. He thinks this type of garment is impractical, and maybe some are, but this gem is the perfect warm weight with a lovely fit for going over snug turtlenecks or sweaters. Beautiful colour!

DROPS 181-24 |

INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN: RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): 1 ridge = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all the rows in the pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 148 stitches) and divide the number of stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 36) = 4.1. In this example, you increase after approx. every 4th stitch. Increase 1 stitch by making a yarn over. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to prevent holes. ---------------------------------------------------------- VEST: The back piece is worked back and forth on circular needle, then you work the edge around the back piece, working in the round. BACK PIECE: Cast on 36-40-44 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm and Andes. Knit 3 rows, then work as follows – from the right side: 4 stitches GARTER STITCH – see description above, work A.1 (= 4 stitches) – see PATTERN above, over the next 28-32-36 stitches, finish with 4 stitches garter stitch. Continue this pattern until the piece measures 18-20-22 cm, work 1 ridge (finish with a row from the wrong side), leave the stitches on the needle. EDGE PIECE: Change to circular needle size 7 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side over the 36-40-44 stitches on the needle. Cast on 20-23-25 new stitches on the needle (= armhole), knit up 1 stitch in each stitch from the cast-on edge (= 36-40-44 stitches) and cast on 20-23-25 new stitches (= armhole) = 112-126-138 stitches. Continue working in the round. Purl 1 round and increase 36-38-46 stitches evenly on the round – read INCREASE TIP = 148-164-184 stitches. Work rib (knit 2/purl 2) until rib measures 10-12-14 cm. Increase 1 stitch in each of the 6 middle knit-sections in the neck (= top mid back). This is done so that the collar will lie neatly when the garment is worn. Continue with knit 3 over these 6 sections of knit, the remaining stitches are worked in rib (knit 2/purl 2) as before = 154-170-190 stitches. Continue with rib until the piece measures 20-24-28 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
