Gauge: 1 strand Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi: 15 sts x 21 rows on needles 5.5 mm/US 9 in stockinette = 10 x 10 cm. 1 strand Silke-Tweed: 23 sts x 30 rows on needles 3.5 mm/US 4 in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Pattern: See charts. The pattern is seen from the right side. Rib: * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from * - *. BODY Cast on 123-135-151-167-183 sts on circular needles 4.5 mm [US 7] with 1 strand light blue Silke-Tweed + 1 strand blue Vivaldi. Knit Pattern 1 - the first 8 rows are knit in rib with 1 edge st in garter st and begin rib with K 1 after edge st. After the rib change to circular needles 5.5 mm [US 9], continue Pattern 1 in stockinette st. Put a marker in piece 31-34-38-42-46 sts in from each side. There will be 61-67-75-83-91 sts between markers for back. When the piece measures 10 cm/4" inc 1 st each side of each marker every 8-8-9-9-10 cm a total of 3 times = 135-147-163-179-195 sts. After you have knit Pattern 1 twice (the piece measures approx. 36 cm/ 14 1/4") knit the next row as follows (right side): 31-34-38-41-45 sts for the front, bind off 6-6-6-8-8 sts for the armhole, 61-67-75-81-89 sts for the back, bind off 6-6-6-8-8 sts for the armhole, 31-34-38-41-45 sts for the front. Knit each piece separately. Right front: = 31-34-38-41-45 sts. Read the entire next section before knitting: Change to circular needles 3.5 mm [US 4] and knit with 1 strand Silke-Tweed following Pattern 2 (place pattern so that there will be a complete repeat at the center front) - increasing 16-18-20-22-24 sts evenly distributed on the first row = 47-52-58-63-69 sts. After the 1st row bind off for armhole at the side every other row: 3 sts 0-0-1-2-2 times, 2 sts 1-3-3-4-5 times and 1 st 2-2-3-3-5 times = 43-44-46-46-48 sts. After Pattern 2 change back to needles 5.5 mm [US 9] and Pattern 1 but start at top of chart so that the stripes will be mirror-imaged after Pattern 2 - decreasing 15-15-16-16-17 sts evenly distributed on the first row = 28-29-30-30-31 sts. When the piece measures 47-48-48-49-49 cm bind off 4 sts at center front edge for neckband. Then bind off at neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 5-5-6-6-7 times = 17-18-18-18-18 sts remain on shoulder. Bind off the remaining sts when the piece measures approx. 55-56-57-58-59 cm. Left front: = 31-34-38-41-45 sts. Knit the same as right front, reversing all shaping - place Pattern 2 so that it will be mirror-imaged at the center front. Back: = 61-67-75-81-89 sts. Read the entire next section before knitting: Change to circular needles 3.5 mm [US 4] and knit with 1 strand Silke-Tweed following Pattern 2 (place the pattern so it is centered on the back) - increasing 32-36-40-44-48 sts evenly distributed on the first row = 93-103-115-125-137 sts. At the same time bind off for armhole at each side as on front = 85-87-91-91-95 sts. After Pattern 2 change back to circular needles 5.5 mm [US 9] and Pattern 1 as on front - decreasing 30-30-32-32-34 sts evenly distributed on the first row = 55-57-59-59-61 sts. When the piece measures 53-54-55-56-57 cm bind off the center 19-19-21-21-23 sts for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge = 17-18-18-18-18 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 55-56-57-58-59 cm. Sleeve: Cast on 54-54-54-54-54 sts on double-pointed needles 4.5 mm [US 7] with 1 strand light blue Silke-Tweed + 1 strand blue Vivaldi; join and place a marker at the join. Knit rib following Pattern 3. Change to double pointed needles 3.5 mm [US 4] and 1 strand Silke-Tweed following Pattern 2. After Pattern 2 is complete the piece measures approx. 15 cm/6", change to double pointed needles 5.5 mm [US 9] and Pattern 1 - start at arrow on chart - decreasing 16-16-14-14-14 sts evenly distributed on the first row = 38-38-40-40-40 sts. At the same time when the sleeve measures 16 cm/ 6 1/4" inc 1 st each side of marker every 5-4-3.5-3-2 cm a total of 7-8-9-10-12 times = 52-54-58-60-64 sts. When the piece measures 50-48-46-45-43 cm bind off 3 sts each side of marker, and knit back and forth. Now bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 2 sts 3-2-1-1-0 times and 1 st 1-7-11-13-16 times, then bind off 2 sts at each side until the piece measures 58-58-58-59-59 cm. Bind off the remaining sts. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Button band: Pick up along left front approx. 75 to 89 sts (divisible by 2 + 1) on needles 4.5 mm [US 7] with 1 strand flint Silke-Tweed + 1 strand natural Vivaldi. Knit rib for 2 cm keeping 1 st at each edge in garter st and begin rib with K 1 after edge st. Bind off in rib. Repeat along right front, but after 1 cm make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed - place the bottom buttonhole 1 cm from lower edge and the top one approx. 7-8 cm from top (there will be 1 buttonhole on neckband). 1 buttonhole = bind off 1 st and on the next row yo over the bound off st. Neckband: Pick up approx. 65 to 77 sts (divisible by 2 + 1) around the neck (incl. over buttonbands) on circular needles 4.5 mm [US 7] with 1 strand flint Silke-Tweed + 1 strand natural Vivaldi. Knit rib - after 0.5 cm make a buttonhole over the others on buttonband. When neckband measures 2 cm, bind off all sts in rib. Sew on buttons. Sew in sleeves. |
